HOW TO ADD SUBSCRIBERS AT UPDATETIME
Subscribers are the most important part of any newsletter however at UpdateTime they are even more important than normal because they have the power over your income.
Each subscriber that views your newsletter adds income to your balance.
We value subscribers as well so we have a number of ways that a subscriber can unsubscribe and manage their subscriptions.This means subscribers are genuine which in turn means our advertisers can have more confidence in their advertising campaigns.
We have a number of steps to help you to understand subscriptions at UpdateTime.
Step 1: Invite Subscribers:
Your first step after opening your newsletter account is to invite subscribers. This is a simple process of copying and pasting your list of email addresses into the subscriber field. The system will send all subscribers a notice to confirm their subscription to you. Their choices are:
-
accept your invitation - they will be added to your master subscriber list;
-
reject your invitation * - this will block you from again inviting them via the system; or
-
ingore your invite & do nothing.
* If your invitation is rejected by accident or the subscriber later changes their mind they must visit your newsletter and add themselves as a subscriber.
Step 2: Invite Subscribers to invite more subscribers:
Anyone can become a subscriber to your newsletter by either visiting your profile page or one of your newsletters. In both these places there is an option to subscribe to you.
Your current subscribers can invite new subscribers by forwarding your newsletter to one of their contacts.
Each newsletter has a button on it “Share this Update” and this system allows it to be forwarded to another possible subscriber.
Our system first checks our database to see if the referrer is registered with us. If they are not registered we firstly ask them to confirm their email address before sending the referral.
We hope this system helps in the fight against spam.
Step 3: Subscribers and Unsubscribing:
All subscribers have the option of a personal login where they can manage their subscriptions and un-subscribing, plus a range of other features.
Un-subscribing can be done in one of three ways:
-
unsubscribe from an individual updater;
-
unsubscribe from all updaters; or
-
turn off their subscription notices for a period e.g. while they are on holidays.
Subscribers can also use their login to:
-
list the ‘updaters’ that they are subscribed to;
-
list other updaters they are interest in but do not subscribe to; &
-
with a single click they can subscribe or unsubscribe from any updater.
Step 4: Subscriber Lists & Sub-lists:
Updaters can manage their subscribers by creating sub lists. A simple process then allows the updater to add or remove a subscriber from a sub list.
When a newsletter is ready for posting to subscribers the updater can choose to send a notice to the full list or to the members of one or more sub lists.
It is important to note at this point that all items posted in newsletters at UpdateTime are public information. By choosing to notify a subset of your full list does not change this.
Step 5: Viewers & Subscribers:
Viewers are people that have viewed your newsletter. For the benefit of advertisers we track, count and monitor each viewer of your newsletters.
We measure the number of viewers. A viewer may view an update as often as they like (and we will count each viewing) however to protect advertisers we only count their first two viewings per day. Advertisers will only pay for two viewings by the same person per day. We use a cookie and other systems to capture this information.
All viewer statistics are visible in the ladder section of the website. Click here to view the ladder page.
We note that the ladder system counts all viewers and does not incorporate this restriction. Updaters can view the actual count by logging into their account and reviewing their statistics.
We also measure the time that a viewer spends reading your newsletter. Our systems have a time out feature so that we stop measuring if the page seems inactive.
Subscribers are people on your subscriber list. It goes without saying that the key is to write newsletters that subscribers want to read. This way they become viewers and remain as your subscribers, or better – they invite new subscribers for you.
