Charity Day Results
The weather permitted us to get through the U5-7 Gala Day, then the hailstorm hit, the blow-up field decided to make a break across the fields towards the houses, and unfortunately we had to cancel the rest of the events for the afternoon. Despite this you have still managed to raise, with funds from the event sponsor CA Technologies included, $2,942.90 which is donated to Special Olympics.
This is a great result considering the whole afternoon was cancelled, and compares well with last year when we raised about twice this amount. Congratulations to all involved, and our thanks to the sponsors for the donated prizes.

Attention Please!
We have had only ONE family offer to help - and our thanks to them, the Marshalls. While we appreciate their offer - it is pretty discouraging to all the other volunteers on the Committee that they were the only ones. SO, HERE IS THE MESSAGE AGAIN
Your volunteer Committee has put in 18+ weeks and hopefully you've enjoyed the results. Now it is your turn.
Since we are Hosting, as a Neutral Ground, 5 matches for the semi-finals, and 5 matches for the Grand Finals we need you to Volunteer to help set-up or in the Canteen.
This is an awesome opportunity to gain a lot of Canteen money we can use to reduce fee pressure and fund equipment, so a couple of hours of your time will help enormously.
Please reply to contactus@stmichaelssoccer.com and advise your available time block for either or both of Sat Aug 21st or Sept 4th from about 8-5.
Give the Committee a break, and as many of them will be involved in games on those days, we really need people to step up.
Featured Match Report
11/5 BLKS v Guildford
Score 1 – 0
The sun was shining the pitch looked great and the knights were happy to be back at their home ground. Coach McCann rallied his knights together reminding them of how this finely tuned machine works, of sportsmanship, team work and of having fun. The candymen from Guildford were up for a battle.
James B made his debut in Goal for the first half & support from Mitchell Harrison & Bianca kept Guildford at bay. Jack, Shaun, Hazza & Jai kept the ball moving in the middle and Guildford were starting to become frustrated. The Knights were attacking well when a sliding tackle saw the Axe (Chris)bite the dust. Shaking himself off and glaring at the goal we knew this could be a turning point and within a few minutes a great ball from Daniel saw the Axe nail the goal of the season from as far back as just this side of Bunnings Carpark.
The second half started with Guildford wanting to level the score and with a couple of there opportunities spoiled by the magic of James K. Ryan & Silas these guys could of worn left footed hush puppies and still moved the ball like it was on a string. Then the pressure came from a dubious free kick. The wall of the knights stood strong Guildford unsuccessfully pushed on and within a minute they were taking a corner a flurry of purple white & black Jerseys fighting for the ball then out of the blue Calvin made the biggest break of the game helping to keep the ball in their half till full time.
Well done Knights.
Knight of the round: Shaun
Encouragement Award: Jai

10/5 v Norwest
Score 3 – 1
The team put in a great effort this week to end the season on a very high note. With some great team passing & ball control the boys stayed in attack mode for most of the game.
In the first half, our first goal resulted from some great passing through Liam, Jordan, Luke & then to Cameron who got the shot in. Norwest managed a couple of breaks against us up the line which resulted in a goal to them. We responded with lots of attack & a good run from Cameron all the way from halfway to score & retain the lead at half time.
The second half saw plenty of great attacking play from our boys. One opportunity came from a shot by Cameron with the rebound back to Liam, who passed to William - who was in a great position to take the shot, but unfortunately just missed the mark. Adam showed some great ball control again, taking a well timed & careful shot which just missed too. A nice corned by Liam followed by some great passing saw Luke take a shot as well. Jordan had a few great shots throughout the game, but got his goal from a hand-ball penalty in the second half.
Our midfield & defenders worked well all game – with Josh H, Alex, Nathan, Jason, Sina, Andrew & Jackson all playing a great game. Overall there was some great team play, nice passing & some excellent opportunities to score. We even improved on our throw-ins, making the most of the opportunities when they came our way.
Thanks to our 2 goalies – Adam & Josh K – who both did a great job in this role yet again.
Knight of the Round went to William who played his best game of the season!
The Encouragement Award went to Alex who worked hard all game
9/6 v Baulkham Hills
Score 4 – 0
The last game of the regular season & the outcome of this game & one other would decide if we came in 2nd or 3rd. The team started off in fine fashion with raids down both the left & right flanks by Luke, Bryce & Adam with fine support in the middle from Matt & Jacob, finally leaving Adam with a chance which he took with both hands, 1-0. Not too long after that, a scramble in the goal mouth was cleaned up with Jacob sneaking #2.
The 2nd half continued in the same vain but this time we needed some stern defence from Dom, Bronte, Steven & Tulizo as Baulko attacked repeatedly. After turning these attacks back, another raid by our wingers & big kick back into the box, saw a penalty hand ball come our way. Jacob took the penalty & almost tore the net from the post with a rocketing drive for # 3. The attacks continued with Olwen down the left & then a long run by Jackson down the right leading to Luke potting # 4, all this while Michael & Courtney held the mid field tight.
Encouragement - Jackson
Knight of the Round - Luke
Well done team, now for the finals!!! Also a quick thanks to the mums & dads that help out each week, Graham & I couldn't do it without you.
11/4 v Greystanes
Score 0 – 2
Today we played against Greystanes, who are coming 2nd on the ladder. We lost 2-0 but what a good game to finish off the season, despite the score. The boys started strong from the moment the referee blew the whistle. The first half was all us. We had 4 good shots at goal, but just didn’t hit the back of the net. We definitely bamboozled Greystanes with our great skills throughout the whole game, flowing from our goalkeeper to the forwards. The pace in the 2nd half slowed down a little, but not enough to disappoint the parents, coaches and manager.
Thankyou to all the parents & coaches for a great season of soccer, I totally enjoyed myself and I am sure the parents and the coaches feel the same. It's been a pleasure to have managed the team. Great bunch of guys. See most of you at Summer Soccer.
Knight of the Round – Chirag
Encouragement Award – Michael
12/4 v Winston Hills
Score 3 – 0
The last round of the regular season against Winston Hills saw St Michaels go into the match with a sure grip on 4th place and Winston Hills out of the semis.
The Knights came out quickly with Alesha making several good runs up the left side. The rest of the team took up that momentum and a Ben/Zach combination looked like a goal but was called off-side, which was followed by Alex hitting the underside of the crossbar and bouncing away. Later Zach P hit a great strike that just curved away into the left post causing some groans of frustration. Finally Zach scored just before half time to take a one-nil lead to the break.
In the second half Zach B started peppering the forward line with his long bombs and Caleb scored early with a long range surprise shot from outside the box. His sister Alesha, still looking for that first goal of the season, looked home for all money but was brought down in the box. Her penalty attempt was saved by the 'keeper who had an excellent match, unluckily for "Bug".
The Knights applied plenty of pressure with good shots from Matthew, Zach P and two from Alex going unrewarded before Ben finally converted for the full-time score of 3-0.
Winston Hills played for pride and were a man or two short for the whole game in a great team effort.
Encouragement Award: Jeremy (aka Bruce) for his great defensive work and organising skills.
KOTR: Alesha for her best game of the year
10/2 v Castle Hill BLK
Score 3 – 0
The coach had got up early to watch the finals contender, Merrylands in action - word came back to the team supporters that they went down 3 nil, a result that could jeopardize the 10/2's finals assault. The 10/2's were up against their nemesis in Castle Hill Black, who's widely known supporter was noticeable by his absence, however the rest of the Green Machine did him proud.
By the same token the 10/2's did the Knights and themselves proud today in what was a fast and at times a feisty encounter at Bella Vista Oval.
The game started off with an early attacking raid by the Knights and following some great lead-up work from Ijaz, Ryan found the net and rattled Castle Hill only minutes after kick-off. The first half continued at a frantic pace both on and off the field, with a penalty goal from Castle Hill disallowed following a breach of the rules by the attacking team and not long after the Castle Hill coach screaming onto the field to a players aid after receiving a ball in the face. Parents were upset that play was allowed to continue for a period, however the 14 year old ref has to be commended for standing his ground and taking control in such a high pressure situation. The incident resulted in some in-fighting in the Castle Hill contingent and wasn't a good look. It was fortunate that the half time whistle was blown shortly after and allowed for some cooling down.
The Knights continued the frantic pace of the first half in the 2nd. Oscar witched forward and goalie roles with Lewis and both players did well to keep clean sheets once again while in goals. Lewis secured a 2nd half goal while patrolling the centre of the field and a sense of a finals berth was secure was felt amongst the supporters.
Coach David continued resting the hard-running forward, which rattled the opposition with our fitness. Then defenders Regan and Adam were given the green light to move forward, a move they enjoyed. Regan clinched the final goal following some excellent ball control.
The team found out that the coach had 'spun a line' about the game he saw earlier and the 10/2's final position was secure before the game, however the last thing the team needs before the finals is complacency. That is something they weren't today.
In a host of standout players, Ryan receives this weeks Knight for his courage, determination, and overall positional play. The Encouragement Award went to Lucas for his enthusiasm and always leading the pack and showing the way at training.
We look forward to next weeks game with Merrylands and yes Coach, you were right about the 3 Nil result, but it was in our game. Go the Mighty 10/2's!
