MATCH REPORT:
Ladies DIv 1 Reserves
CCYC vs Dee Why
Round #1: Sunday 11.04.10
Season 2010 finally Kicked off last Sunday for the Ladies in the
Green and Gold. The newly formed Division 1 Reserve team played host to Dee Why
brimming with enthusiasm to finally put their preseason training to the test.
With some new faces to the team, and to the code itself, the ladies
put up a gallant effort in the first half, by diffusing Dee Why’s attack from
many angles. Early chances presented themselves for Curl Curl as they too
stormed through the defenses of Dee Why as they created plenty of promising
counter-attacking opportunities.
Just minutes before the break, Dee Why scored a sneaky goal after
hitting the goal post before being finished off leaving both sides’ supporters
on their feet during the build up of the play.
Not to be discouraged, the Curl Curl ladies marched back on the
field looking to upset the Dee Why squad’s momentum by running the ball around
the defense and sometimes straight through the middle. Central midfielder
Julianne Rulli kept the Dee Why defenders on their toes running all angles
looking for a way through to the back of their net. While fellow teammates
Paola Miotto and Alison Pounder worked well together sending long shots over
the defenders and down the line with plenty of creativity and skill.
Sadly, The Curl Curl ladies had to retrieve the ball from the back
of the net two more times before the full time whistle, but by no means did
they make it easy for the opposition. New comer Monya Robb found her calling,
keeping the Dee Why midfielders out of the loop with an impressive first game
that won her the team’s Man of the Match award. Also impressive was fellow
freshman to the world of football, Meredith New who got right into the thick of
the action dismantling Dee Why’s attack with her vision that halted the
progress of the ladies in blue on many occasions.
Young recruits Emma Hickey and Sophia Stanley injected some fast
pace that troubled the Dee Why
players as they constantly moved up the pitch in search of getting on the score
sheet and never looked like giving up.
So with the first round over, the ladies in the Green and Gold
walked off the pitch, choosing to focus on the obstacles they overcome as a
team playing their first game together, rather than the result. With smiles all
round, the team is keen to start the second round of competition in search of
their first points...

TRIVIA!!!
Each newsletter I have decided to start a small competition between you Curly Teams - I will post a imaginative trivia question (not always football related) and the first correct answer emailed to krystaljane@iprimus.com.au will score their team a "front page (style)" photo and caption of choice (within reason). So send your answer to my email with you team name and chosen, creative caption, and I will arrive at your next home game and begin a paparazzi style photo shoot. The previous newsletter's answer will also appear in this space!
QUESTION 1: ""what's the mobile number you text your results into at games end?" (question supplied by competition secretary)
