The reports below are from the weekend of 16th & 17th July
U10-5 v North Rocks Loss 0-3
The top of the ladder Nth Rocks with unlimited reserves usually wins by 5. The improvement in our team to be able to play with only 10 was impressive. Our teams ability to mark close and counter attack stuns the opposition. Only 2 goals down in the second half we were confident we could still win. Nobody in the team gave up and we kept trying to slot a goal in. Our defence was wonderful but most impressive was goalie Jarod who shut down so many possible goal attempts even the oppositions management were bewildered. Very proud of this new teams achievements in such a short time. Each individual player is giving a 100% for courage under fire and amazing goal skills P.O.M awarded to Jarod. Great defence and calm under pressure Merit awards Josh and Joel.
U12/4 v Rydalmere Win 1-0
It was a spectacular effort from the Under 12 Div 4 in today's game with Rydalmere. Despite being outnumbered and with a few kids recovering from illness, the 12/4's showed guts and determination and finished the game with a win of 1-0. All the kids worked hard, chased the ball and paid closed attention to the moves of the opposing team. It was fantastic effort from Jeffrey who seemed to have boots powered by jets - he always managed to outrun any kid. Joey and Lachlan worked well in the back and were strong in their defence. Dominic made the block of the season (and has the bruises to prove it!) Nakita was fantastic in goal and made some brilliant saves. Nicholas, despite missing a lot of training being away on holidays seemed to have come out with enhanced ball skills and run through the field along side Jessie. Jake, although the newby in the team, is starting to settle with the team and is starting to have fun with his team. Jordan has showed his personal best today by going to the ball and amidst the confusion got a small hit and injured his nose. Despite the injury, knowing they are outnumbered, when the bleeding from his nose stopped, he went back on the field to help his team. Daniel's persistence has finally paid off. His near goal blocked by a handball by the other team was rewarded a penalty shot. He proved today that he can handle the pressure and showed precision in hitting the ball to make sure they get a goal.
The coaches, Floyd, Peter and the Manager, Kim were under the pump this week, with no substitutes and only 10 players against a full strength Rydalmere team, they made it through, working out the best positions possible for the kids which has finally paid off with the sweet taste of victory. The parents on the sideline were all there to lend their support and cheers, with Tran leading the cheer squad! Well done 12/4's
13/4's Vs Newington Win 5 -1
After a slow start and getting to know each other again after the holidays, the passes began to stick. If we play like we did today against the stronger teams, we may not win but we will give them a score. Ball control is our main enemy, we must control the ball, if we own the ball we own the game. When we do control the ball we look good and play with purpose and structure, it's like we are sometimes two teams out playing the game. But what I see is young men slowly learning the game and learning the game takes a lifetime. Today effort was great and the feeling of walking of the ground a winner is what its all about. With the coach (Sam Dicker) turning 18 today, the guys said lets win it for Sam. Done. Next weeks game as always starts Wednesday, well done today.
35/5 V's St Michaels Loss 6 -1
I cannot lie, it was the worst game the keeper has had for 40 years. We got off to a flying start with a goal with in the first 5 minutes, which shocked them more than us. The energy was up today from all on the field, but silly errors at the last let us down. This loss today is the hardest I have felt all year they where not 6 goals better than us. All I can say that this year is about learning to lose and keep our dignity and pride and remember this time when it's turned around and it will turn around, we are better than this. We will not drop our bundle for the final games this year.
035-6 v Winston Hill Draw 1-1
This comp is so close one little mistake or an injury can turn the game around. We are still struggling to field a full team and though we welcomed back Steve, Boofa and Craig are now in recovery. Still the ball control the team is showing this year is given us a better platform to strike from.
Although it was a draw we had so many close shots at the goals it showed how much more we dominated the play. Again the team spirit lives with Gino giving a M.O.M effort although suffering a bad stomach bug. That's the sort of commitment that makes a winning team.
AAL5 v Holroyd Rangers Loss 0-6
Geez they were a tough team, especially the little no. 8
Kylie- best game I have ever seen you play, you were like glue!!
Jane - copped one to the head and kept playing, u little rippa!!!!
Renai - star player as always!
Cat - I think u played every position today, great transferable skills!
Pecky - busy day with the phone calls but u kept so many goals out of the goal area with great footwork
Kitty Kat - great forward playing, u are exceptional with your foot skills and how u can sneak around people
Rach - you were fast and you stuck to no. 8 like gum to carpet!!! Great job
Nadia - you are the most positive and upbeat person I know, you are so beautiful
Helen - speed, Cathy Freeman would be jealous of you!!! U are so fast
Nic - your feet are tiny but your kicks are massive and loud! David Beckham eat your heart out!
Irene - hokey pokey!! You are as usual a great asset to our team and you were all over it, a girl commented that our no. 2 was covering everywhere!!
Steph - did a great job after a heavy night and kept everything inside once play time started, good effort just to be there!
Captain Andy- great job as fill in coach, you are as passionate about our team and game as Enzo is but you don't yell at us
We missed you TB, Emma and Naomi but I think we would have lost anyway, they are just a better team (but we are prettier)
In the end a massive improvement on the last time!!
35/5's Vs Pendle Hill Black Loss 3 -1
I don't know what to say that I have not already said all year, we turn up, we try hard. We have personal records to break. Richie has never played in a team that has got the wooden spoon, Frank and Colin have not played in a winning team this year. We can remember every goal scored this year, when you can do that, not many have gone in. Young Bill is now leading score with 3 go you good thing. Matt was last seen after the game drinking crownies with Pendle Hill after scoring a screamer for them, possibly the best goal all year. We lifted in the second half and won the half. All these records except Matt's can change we have six games to go. With a catch up game on Sunday it will be who is less wounded to come out on top.
035-6 v St Michael's Win 3-1
This catch up match was vital to win to put us clear on the top of the table.
No one complained about aches or pains or having no sub's. We are getting to used playing this way and each of us knows we have to give an all out effort.
We found ourselves dominating again but unable to finish shots at goal. Christo broke the record for the number of offside calls in one half. Fordy opened the scoring and Andy finally found his Mojo hitting the back of the net- Twice.
Great ball control from the forwards and mids to keep the pressure up and good defence from the backs and Spud to keep them frustrated. Enzo fuelled by the spirits of the gods defended without mercy and shared the M.O.M award with Andy.
A great team effort and encouraging support from the spectators but also thanks to all the team management that puts it all together.
