Newsletter for week ending
8 Nov 09
Welcome to the first of our weekly newsletters.
Each week we’ll provide the results from the team’s games and a brief story about each game. For those in the senior teams who are interested in their batting and fielding stats, you can contact me via email and I'll be happy to send you your stats. In the following weeks, I’ll also try to get photos for each game and also team photos so you can see who is who in the club.
If you would like to contribute to the newsletter or like to make any suggestions about content, please contact me and I’ll attempt to do my best to accommodate your requests.
I hope you enjoy the newsletters and please feel free to invite friends, family, workmates, basically anyone and everyone you know, to subscribe to our newsletter. The more people reading, the more our club will benefit in the long run.
Thanks again
Wendy ‘Dags’ – Fund raising committee member and scorer.
T Ball
There are no winners or losers in T Ball, just kids having fun and learning the game, well, mostly learning the game, having fun is more like it. It’s great to see kids from ages 4 to 9 running around and laughing and having a great time, there should be more of it :o)
Under 12’s
The Under 12’s played Eagles 4 and had a close and exciting game yesterday and were beaten in the last innings by only 1 run. The final score being 11-12.
C Grade Seniors – Galaxy 2
Galaxy 2 played Brighton 4 yesterday, for their 2nd win in 3 games.
Brighton won the toss and sent us in to bat. Our first batter, Carmel, was walked. Rachelle, an U12 player who played for us, was unfortunately struck out, however, advanced Carmel to 2nd base. Steph hit a screamer to short stop and made it safely to first, however, Carmel was put out while attempting to steal 3rd base. Niva was then up to bat and made it to first due to an error from the 2nd base fielder, and advanced Steph to 3rd base. Due to some wild pitching and passed balls, both Steph and Niva made it home and the innings ended with 2 runs. The Brighton team were up next and safely connected to several balls, however, due to some excellent fielding, they were only able to get 2 home. Sheryl caught a hard hit line drive to short stop and at the end of the dig, the score was even at 2 all.
At the top of the 2nd innings Lyanne, Sheryl, Margaret and Carmel faced the pitcher, however, we were unable to get any runners home. However, having said that, neither did Brighton in their 2nd turn at bat.
The top of the 3rd saw Steph and Niva get home again and the score was 4-2. Brighton were only able to get 1 runner home, but their 4th batter, Sarah hit a beautiful double base hit to centre field. The score at the bottom of the 3rd was 4-3 to us.
The top of the 4th innings saw 3 beautiful hits by Carmel, Steph and Lyanne, all to centre field and we eventually got 8 home, nearly running through the line-up twice. At the start of the bottom of the innings, there was only about 10 minutes to play and we knew we had to get 3 up 3 down so we could keep our runs. Margaret caught a high hit fly ball to 2nd base to get the first batter out. The next 2 batters got on base and then got home through some minor fielding errors. The next batter up also got to first, but was put out at 2nd by a fantastic throw from centre field to short stop. The final out was made and the game ended on time with the final score being 12 – 5 to us.
Well done team and here’s to next week when we take on RPCYC Focus.
B Grade Seniors – Galaxy 1
Galaxy 1 played Demons 2 and won the game in a nail biting last inning.
Demons won the toss and sent us in to bat. The first pitch of the innings was perfectly bunted up the 3rd base line by Lil. Melinda was walked and advanced Lil to 2nd base. Debbie was next up to bad and hit a beautiful 2 base hit to centre field, bringing Lil home and advancing Melinda to 3rd. Melinda was put out at home base while trying to steal, however, Debbie, stealing 3rd forced an error and ran home. 3 more batters faced the pitcher, but no more runs were scored. We ended the innings with 2 runs.
The bottom of the 1st saw no runs gained by the opposition and a beautiful line drive catch by Melinda at short stop. Score at the bottom of the first was 2-0.
The 2nd innings saw no runs gained by either team. Sam and Jess combined with Lil to get 3 of the 4 batters who faced Jenny, out at 1st. Score was still 2-0.
In the 3rd innings, we unfortunately didn’t score any runs and only allowed the Demons to score 1. Still a close game at 2-1.
The top of the 4th saw runs scored by Lil, Debbie, Sam and Denni before a great double play by the Demons got Carmel and Melinda out. Jess & Lyanne were then walked before the 3rd out. The score was now 6-1 with about 15 minutes to go. The first batter up hit a hard line drive straight to Sam, I’m sure her heart is still thumping from it. Although Denni missed a fly ball to centre field, due to the sun in her eyes, she threw a beautiful ball to 3rd base to get the 2nd out of the innings. The Demons then faced the pitcher, Jenny, determined to hit her out of the park, and nearly did so with 2 batters hitting well placed double bag hits to the outfield, bringing home 4 runners, however, a poor infield hit to Jenny saw the third out at 1st base and the game saved. The final score being 6-5. You just have to love close games like that. Let’s not let it get that close next week when we face Outlaws 1, I don’t think my heart can take it again.
