Galaxy Softball Newsletter for Week Ending
22 Nov 2009.
Welcome again to the Galaxy Softball Club newsletter.
Here's the weekly wrap for the games and a new section called 'Player Profile'. This week I interviewed Jeanette 'Nettie'. Next week I'll attempt to have 2 players, so watch out, I'll be coming to see someone very soon.
T Ball
Again, another fun week for the kids. Everyone on both sides hit the ball well off the Tee and with a little help from the coaches, made it to the right bases. I finally took the camera to the game and have included a team photo for all the club to see our future players.

Under 12's
I finally got to watch part of their game and they had a win woo hoo. Unfortunately, I can't remember the score, but I do know the team won by around 3 or 4 points. Everyone hit and fielded really well and generally had a great time. Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing your game next week.
Here's the girls after their game:

C Grade - Galaxy 2
We played RPCYC Gold this week.
PCYC won the toss and sent us in to bat. Sue was walked and while Steph was facing, stole 2 bases to end up on 3rd. Steph was also walked, as was Marg and when the pitched ball went past the catcher, Sue stole home, bringing in the first run. Niva hit a high fly ball to centre and was caught, and then the centre fielder threw the ball back to 2nd base and unfortunately Steph was put out. Kriss faced next and was struck out by some good pitching, not much she could do. Score is 1-0 at the top of the first.
PCYC then faced and Niva pitched a total of 6 balls to 3 batters, all 3 were put out before they could reach first base, some wonderful fielding by Sheryl, Lyanne and Niva. Score at the bottom of the first inning is 1-0.
Next up to bat for us is Sheryl, gone is the forboding feeling of being struck out as she hit a screamer to left field to make it to first base. Lyanne is up next and while facing the pitcher, Sheryl steals 2nd. Lyanne is walked to first. Anne is up next and hits a high fly ball to short stop, I swear it came down with snow on it. Linda faces next and hits a hard ball to the 2nd base fielder who puts out Lyanne running to 2nd base, then completes the double play by throwing to first to get Linda out, not much could be done and it was a great play on behalf of PCYC. The score is still 1-0.
The first batter for PCYC hit a fly to left field for their first out. Next up to bat hit a beatiful home run hit to right field, to get their first run in. 3rd batter up and she connected with a nice 3 bag hit to right field. PCYC fourth batter, although getting out at first base, brought home another run. We then got the third out with a nice fly to short stop. Score at the bottom of the 2nd innings is 1-2.
Top of the 3rd Innings and Sue is up to bat and hits a nice one to centre field, making it safely to first base. Steph does the same and advances Sue to 2nd. Marg is up next and hits the ball hard at the 3rd base fielder, who makes an error and Sue safely gets on base, however, while trying to steal home, Sue is put out by a nice throw from the left fielder to the catcher. While the out is being made, Steph and Marg both steal a base, leaving 1st open for Niva, who is walked. Kris is up next and gets to first due to an error by the short stop and also brings home Steph. Sheryl hits another screamer to centre field, bringing Marg home and safely getting to 1st. Lyanne hits the ball hard back at the pitcher (not meaning to of course), who choses to take the easy out at home and save the run. Anne is up next and is unfortunately struck out by some great pitching. Score at the top of the 3rd is 3-2.
PCYC are up and no matter what Niva throws at them, they start connecting with the ball, their 4th batter hitting a grand slam home run before we get 3 out. The score at the bottom of the 3rd is 3-6.
Top of the 4th and some great fielding see us not get any runs home, but neither did they when they came up to bat, catch of the day going to Sheryl at short stop, catching a screamer of a line drive. Score is still 3-6.
Top of the 5th and final innings and again, good fielding sees only 3 get on base, however, no runs were scored by us.
PCYC start the bottom of the 5th, and again, no matter what Niva pitches to them, they connect with the ball and end up getting 9 runs home. The final score is 3-15. All in all it was a great game and there was not much we could do in the final innings, except maybe asking for doping tests hehehe. Better luck next week when we play Eagles 3.
Here's a pic of the C grade girls...back row: Sue, Sheryl, Anne, Niva, Marg & Steph. Middle row : Lyanne, Linda & Kris, with Rachelle in the front.

B Grade - Galaxy 1
What grit, what pain, what a bummer....
Demons 2 won the toss and sent us in to bat. Lil was up first and got safely to first base due to an error by the first base fielder. Wendy hit a great hit to centre field and advanced Lil to 2nd and safely reached 1st base herself. Up next was Debbie, who hit the ball to short stop, who opted to get Lil out at 3rd base. Anne was up next and hit the ball to short as well, and again, the fielder opted for the easy out at 3rd. Debbie stole 3rd base on a wild pitch and Denni got on base after the catcher dropped the third strike and Debbie got home, bringing Debbie home when the catcher tried to get Denni out at 1st. Nat was walked and then Lyanne hit a fly to the 3rd base fielder for our 3rd out. Score at the top of the 1st is 1-0.
Demons first batter hit the ball straight to first base, who put her out and the 2nd batter hit a fly to centre field for their 2nd out. 3rd batter up bunted the ball and safely made it to first base. The next 2 batters up hit safe balls to the outfield. Demons' 6th batter got to first on a dropped third strike, and brought home a runner, however, in a wonderful shut down play, we got our 3rd out, leaving the score at the bottom of the 1st innings 1-1.
Top of the 2nd and Sheryl gets on base from a wild throw from short stop to first. Steph steps up to the plate and is unfortunately struck out. Lil bunts a perfect ball down the third base line, making it to first and advancing Sheryl to 2nd. Wendy is up next and is walked, however, during this time, both Sheryl and Lil have stolen 3rd and 2nd. up next is Debbie who hits an in-field fly for their 2nd out. Sheryl makes it home on a wild throw by the 3rd base fielder and Lil then picks up a run when the catcher throws wildly to try to get her out at 3rd base. Anne hits a high fly to left field for the final out. Score at the top of the 2nd is 3-1.
First batter up for Demons hits a wicked line drive to short stop, who, through self preservation, catches the ball for the first out. Just like the C grade game, no matter what Jenny throws at the batters, they connect safely with the ball and bring home 2 runs before we get our 3rd out, ending the innings at 3-3.
Top of the 3rd and Denni is put out at first, before Nat makes it safely. Lyanne is walked and then Sheryl hits a hard ball back at the pitcher, making it safely to 1st and loading up the bases. Steph hits a perfect ball to centre field, bringing home Nat. Lil comes up to bat and hits to centre field, who drops the fly ball, bringing home Lyanne. Wnedy hits safely to left field and Debbie hits a fly to left for the final out. Score is now 5-3.
Bottom of the 3rd and again, no matter what Jenny does, the batters connect and hit safe balls. A few errors were made by our side and tempers started getting as hot as the day, when the umpire decided to make a bad call. Regardless of this, Demons were on fire and couldn't do any wrong with their batting and the final score when the umpire called time was 5-16. Let's just brush this off and start again next week. I know we can play well and beat PRCYC Tat2
Unfortunately, 3 players from the team were missing this week so I'll get a team photo next week and get it up here for everyone to have a look-see.
