Galaxy Softball Newsletter
for Week Ending 24 Jan 2010
Better late than never, sorry everyone, but I've been a tad busy the last few days.
Here's the weekly wrap for the games. There was only 1 senior game this week as the T Ball and Under 12's don't return until 30 January and the B grade team had to forfeit due to several members being sick and unable to play.
C Grade - Galaxy 2
This week we played Brighton 4.
The batting line up and fielding positions are as follows:
Galaxy Brighton 4
Carmel - catcher Shantelle - short stop
Steph - 3rd base Chloe - left field
Marg - 2nd base Bernadette - 2nd base
Anne - first base Kim - pitcher
Sue - pitcher Arua - 3rd base
Sirrena - left field Karen - first base
Sheryl - short stop Leeanne - centre field
Niva - centre field Sarah - catcher
Linda - right field Meagan - right field
Rachelle - bench Rosalind - bench
We won the toss and elected to bat.
First up, as usual, is Carmel, who is walked. Steph steps up to the plate and while taking a pitch, Carmel steals 2nd base. Steph then hits the ball to Bernie at 2nd, who throws her out at first base. Marg then takes the plate and again, Carmel steals 3rd base on a wild pitch. Marg hits the ball to Shantelle at short stop, who throws her out at first, however, Carmel is brought home for our first run. Both Anne & Sue are walked. Sirrena takes the plate and both Anne & Sue steal 3rd & 2nd respectively. Sirrena then hits a screamer to right field to make it safely to first base, bring Anne home and advance Sue to 3rd base. Sheryl then faces the pitcher and on a muffed 3rd strike, makes it safely to first base. Niva is next and is left standing at the plate when she's struck out. Score at the top of the innings is 2-0.
Up first for Brighton is Shantelle. This is the first time in approx 3 years that Sue has pitched, and I decided that she should have a go and have some fun. Shantelle is walked to first. Chloe steps up next and hits a safe hit to Sheryl at short stop, but not until after Shantelle has stolen 2nd base, and then makes it safely to 3rd base on Chloe's hit. Bernie is up next and is walked to first. Kim takes the plate and on a beautiful pitch, hits a perfect line drive straight to Sheryl at short stop, making the first out. Arua steps up and is struck out by Sue for the 2nd out. Karen then steps up and hits another perfect line drive, this time straight to Marg at 2nd base. End of the innings and the score is 2-0.
First up for us is Linda, who is struck out by some great pitching. Carmel then steps up and hits a fantastic hit to right field, deciding that she doesn't want to stop at 2nd base, so makes it comfortably to 3rd base. Steph then takes the plate and hits the first ball to Arua on 3rd base, who doesn't quite make the throw to first, thus allowing Steph to make it safely and bring home Carmel. During Marg's turn at bat, Steph steals both 2nd & 3rd bases and Marg is finally walked to first. Anne steps up and hits a hard ball to Shantelle at short stop, who throws her out at first, but Steph makes it home so I award Anne with a sacrifice hit. Sue steps up and after hitting several foul balls, is finally struck out for the 3rd out of the dig. Score is 4-0.
First up for Brighton is Leeanne, who is walked, as is Sarah, the next batter. Meagan is struck out by some wonderful pitching from Sue. In the mean time, both Leeanne & Sarah have stolen a few bases and are on 3rd & 2nd respectively. Shantelle steps up and hits a high fly ball to Niva in centre field, who catches it for the 2nd out. Chloe then steps up and hits a safe hit to Niva, bringing home Leeanne and advancing Sarah to 3rd base. Bernie, Kim and Arua are all walked and while Karen is facing the ball, a wild pitch brings home Chloe. Karen then hits the ball to Marg at 2nd base, who puts out Arua, trying to make it to 2nd. End of the innings and the score is 4-3.
Up first is Sirrena, who is left swinging in the wind, struck out. Sheryl then steps up and is walked to first base. Niva then takes the plate, thinking that she didn't like being struck out before, so on the second pitch, hits a beautiful home run hit to centre field, chasing Sheryl all the way around the bases, both scoring. Linda then steps up and keeps Leeanne in centre field working, by hitting a safe hit to her. Carmel then takes the plate and is walked. Steph steps up and trying to keep up with Niva, hits a safe double bagger to Leeanne in centre field, bringing home both Linda and Carmel. Marg is walked. Anne steps up and hits the ball to Shantelle at short stop, who elects to take the easy out and throws out Steph at 3rd base. Sue is up next and hits the ball safely to right field, however, she pulls up on first with a sore foot. I pull her off the Rachelle is now the pinch runner for her. Sirrena steps up again and unfortunately, is again left standing at the plate by some great pitching, not much you can do about it Sirrena and nothing to be worried about. Score at the top of the third innings is now 8-3.
First up for Brighton is Leeanne, who is walked. Sarah is up next and makes it safely to first base, however, she has hit the ball straight to Sheryl at short stop, who throws to Marg on 2nd base, to get the forced out. Meagan is then walked. Sue's foot is hurting badly at this stage, so we bring her off and bring Niva in from centre field to pitch, moving some other players around in the out field. Shantelle is next up and hits a fly to Marg on 2nd base, for the 2nd out. Chloe then hits the ball straight back to Niva, who throws to Anne on first for the 3rd and final out. Score at the end of the game is 8-3. Well done ladies, you've done yourselves proud :o)

It would be appreciated if all teams could be represented at the meeting. We will be discussing the end of season break up party, so if you want your say into what we do, please come along.
