Welcome again to the Galaxy Softball Club newsletter.
Here's the weekly wrap for the games. This week I interviewed Robyn Jones for our 'Player Profile'.
T Ball
Another fun week for the kids. Everyone had fun and thankfully there were no sheep stations being played for. I've got some action shots of the kids for you.

Thanks kids, and hope you're enjoying the game :o)
Under 12's
I got to watch most of their game (well, ok, so I slept in a little hehehe) and although they didn't win, what I saw of the game was fantastic and you did yourselves and your team proud. Keep up the good work girls, we're all cheering for you. The final score was 2-17. Here's some shots of the girls in action - our future Aussie players :o)

C Grade - Galaxy 2
This week we played Eagles 3.
Eagles won the toss and sent us in to bat. Well, we found out after our first 11 batters were walked, that the regular pitcher for the eagles team decided that a cheap trip to Japan was more important than playing for her team hehehe. Carmel was put out running to 3rd base (at her 2nd turn at bat in the innings) from a forced play, letting Marg get on base and Linda home. Marg was then put out at 2nd base due to another force play when Anne hit the ball to centre field. Sheryl was up next and took one for the team (being hit by the ball that is). Lyanne was walked and Sue hit a nice ball out to left field, bringing home both Anne & Sheryl. Rachelle got on base, but was put out at 2nd for the 3rd out of the innings. Score at the top is 13-0.
Eagles then took a turn at bat and their first batter hit a nice ball out to centre field and made it to first base. She then stole 2nd base. Eagle's 2nd batter then hit a high fly to left field, which Sue caught, then she quickly threw the ball to Marg on 2nd base, to get the first batter out before she could tag up, making a beautiful double play. Next up for Eagles hit a screamer out to left field, making it home before the ball, for a very nice home run. Next batter made it to first on an error (sorry about that, but I had to lol) 6th batter up hit the ball straight back to Lyanne, who made the throw to first for the 3rd out. Score at the bottom of the innings is 13-1.
Top of the 2nd and Carmel was walked for the 3rd time. Up next was Steph who hit a great safe 2 bag hit to centre field, bringing home Carmel. Marg then hit the ball safely to 3rd base. Next 4 batters were walked (even after changing the pitcher for the 3rd time) and then Rachelle was up but unfortunately hit the ball straight to first base for our first out. Linda was walked and then Carmel was given a nice ball to hit safely out to right field. Steph hit the ball to 2nd base and got on to first, however, Carmel was put out. Marg was up next and hit a fantastic 3 base hit to left field. Anne was the last up and made it to first, however, Marg was put out on 3rd base for our 3rd out. Score at the top of the innings is 22-1.
Bottom of the 2nd and final innings and the Eagles came out hitting hard. the first 13 batters all got on base and home despite some great pitching from Lyanne. We finally made the first out from a wonderful throw from Sue in left field, to Steph on 3rd base. Next out was a screamer of a throw from Sheryl to Anne on 1st base and we finally got the 3rd out from a dropped third strike which was then thrown out at first. Final score was 22-16. Gotta love a close game ladies, I know I do. Next week we won't let them come back or get so close :o)
B Grade - Galaxy 1
Another close game, this time against PCYC Tat 2
We won the toss and sent the Tats in to bat.
First batter up for the tats hit the ball straight to Wendy, who threw to Lil to get the first out. 2nd batter up hit a high fly to short stop and Melinda held on to the ball to make the 2nd out. The next 2 batters got on base, however, we got out third out when the batter hit a high fly to first base and Lil made the 3rd out. Score at the top of the first is 0-0.
First up to bat for us is Lil, who is walked. Wendy is up next and hits a fly ball to 1st base for the first out. Lil, meanwhile, has stolen 2nd base. Debbie steps up to the plate and Jenny puts the bunt on her. Deb bunts well, but is put out at first base for a sacrifice bunt and the 2nd out, however, Lil makes it to 3rd base, so Deb's done what she needed to do. Up next is Melinda, who hits a hard ball to short stop, who, unfortunately, gets the ball and throws to first base for the 3rd out. Score at the bottom of the first innings is 0-0.
Top of the 2nd and Tat's first 3 batters get on base. Fourth batter up hits the ball straight to Wendy at 2nd base, who then throws to Lil for the first out, however, a runner gets home. Another runner gets home when a pitched ball makes it past Debbie. Next batter up hits to Melinda at short stop, who throws hard to Lil to get our 2nd out. Jenny then leaves the next batter standing with a strike out. Score at the top of the 2nd is 3-0.
Sam and Denni both hit nice balls to left & centre fields and Natalie is walked (after hitting 4 foul balls). Lyanne is up next and hits the ball to 2nd base, who only just misses getting Nat out, but throws to first base to get Lyanne out, but not before Sam gets home. Sheryl steps up to the plate and hits a fantastic 2 base hit to centre field, bringing home both Denni and Nat. Lil then steps up and hits a nice ball to left field. Up next is Wendy, who hits the ball straight back at the pitcher, who made a great effort to get the ball to first base, for the 2nd out. Debbie then hits a hard high fly ball to left field, who manages to keep hold of the ball for the third out. Score at the bottom of the 2nd innings is 3-3.
Top of the 3rd and the first batter up for Tats hits a fly to left field, unfortunately the wind had started up, along with the thunder and lightening in the distance, and Sam found it hard to keep the ball in her sights, the batter making it to 2nd base. Next batter up hit a hard line drive which just clipped Lil's glove, bringing the first batter home. Next up and Tats decided to do some bunting practice, the batter making it safely to first base. Next batter up hits the ball straight to Lil, who put her out for the first out of the innings. Jenny then left the next batter standing at the plate, wondering what had happened. Next batter for Tats then hit a screamer out to centre, making it to 2nd base and bringing home 2 runners. 7th batter up hits a safe hit to centre field, however, the next batter hit a fly to 2nd base, Wendy catching the ball for the 3rd out. Score at the top of the 3rd is 3-6.
Bottom of the 3rd innings and Melinda steps up to the plate and hits the ball hard to 2nd base who throws to first base to get her out. Sam them steps up and hits a hard line drive straight to the pitcher, who, through self preservation, caught the ball for the 2nd out. Denni then hits a safe ball to left field. Nat then steps up to the plate and with the first pitch to her, hits a perfect 3 base hit to centre field, bringing Denni home. Lyanne is then walked and Sheryl hits a high fly to first base for the 3rd out. Score at the bottom of the 3rd is 5-6.
Top of the 4th innings and Tat 2 are looking serious. First batter up hits a safe ball to centre field but is called out on the very next pitch when she leaves first base early. 2nd batter up hits a hard low line drive straight at Melinda, who catches the ball for the 2nd out. The next 6 batters got on base hiting balls to the right spots, bringing home 5 before Lil gets the third out at first base. Score is now 5-11.
With only about 10 minutes to go, we realise we need to get some hard softball playing done. Lil is first up to bat and is walked. Wendy then hits the ball back at the pitcher, who throws to 2nd base to try to get Lil out, however, short stop, who is taking the throw, makes an error and both batter & runner are safe. Debbie then steps up and hits an in field fly for the first out of the innings. Melinda then steps up and gets on safely when the fielder opts to get Lil out at third base for the 2nd out. Sam then hits a safe ball out to right field and brings Wendy home. Denni then hits the ball hard straight to the 2nd base fielder, who holds on to the ball for the 3rd and final out. The final score is 6-11. A close game is a good game I say. You all played well and there's always next week when we play Outlaws 1. Thanks for a great game :o)
I finally got a picture of the team and also some action shots of Melinda and Lil (no really, I didn't set up the shots, they always smile when they're batting hehehe)
