Galaxy Softball Newsletter
for Week Ending 6 Dec 2009
Well, it's come around fast, Christmas that is. And with the holidays upon us, we've all got a break from softball for a few weeks (yay I can hear you all saying).
Here's the weekly wrap for the games for the past week. This will be the last newsletter until we come back from the break on 16 January 2010. Just a quick reminder that the kids teams don't come back until 23 January 2010 (woo hoo, I get to sleep in on Saturdays until then hehehe).
I didn't get a chance to interview anyone for the 'Player Profile', so decided to interview myself (yeah, we all know I'm a nutter and talk to myself...hehehe)
T Ball
The kids had a ball and are starting to get the gist of the game. They're still having fun and enjoying themselves. I didn't get any photos of them this week, but will get some more when we come back next year.
Under 12's
The Under 12's played very well this week, unfortunately I didn't get to see the game, but was told that they only just lost in the last dig. The final score being 7-9. Keep it up girls, you've done it before and you can do it again. And remember, at your level of the game, it's all about having fun and playing with your friends :o)
Again, no pics this week, but will endeavour to have some next time.
C Grade - Galaxy 2
This week we played PCYC Blue who won the toss and sent us in to bat.
Both Niva and Steph were walked to first, bringing Marg to the plate. Marg hit a nice ball to left field to load up the bases. Niva then stole home on a passed ball and then Anne was walked to first (maybe that should be she hobbled there lol). Sheryl then hit a ball straight back at the pitcher, who threw to first base for the first out, however, Steph came home for our second run. Lyanne, Sue & Sireena were all walked, bringing home another run. Linda was 9th batter and did what Sheryl did, hit the ball to the pitcher, who again threw to first base for the 2nd out. But like Sheryl, another runner came home. Niva was up again and hit a nice ball to 3rd base, bringing home Sue in the process. Sireena was then put out trying to steal home on a passed ball, nice try :o) Score at the top of the first innings is 6-0.
First batter up for Blue hit the ball to Steph at 3rd base, who threw it perfectly to Anne on first, for our first out. Their second batter must have decided that hitting to Steph was a good idea, so she also got out at first base when Steph threw the ball straight to Anne. Blue's third batter up looked a big hitter, so the field moved out. She hit a nice ball to Steph, but unfortunately, the ball got to first base a few seconds after the runner, so she was safe. Fourth batter up hit a beatiful ball to right field and made it to first base, but also brought home the runner. 5th batter up was left standing at the plate when Lyanne struck her out. Score at the bottom of the first innings is 6-1.
Top of the 2nd innings and Steph is first up to bat. After looking at the first pitch, she decides she wants to hit, and man, can she hit, straight out to centre field for a 3 base hit. At some stage during the next 2 batters (Marg & Anne), who were walked, Steph gets home on a passed ball. Up steps Sheryl who hits the ball to left field, who drops it, letting Sheryl get to first base and Marg get home. Lyanne and Sue are again walked. Sireena steps up and hits the ball straight to short stop, however, she gets on base as the fielder chose to try to make the out at 2nd base, unfortunately, the 2nd base fielder dropped the ball and both Sireena and Sue were safe. Linda then pops up a ball for an In Field Fly, making our first out. Niva steps up and is walked. Steph approaches the plate and the fielders start moving out. She hits a safe 1 base hit to right field, bringing home 2 runners in the meantime. Marg hits safely to left field, bringing home Niva. Unfortuantely, Anne's leg hasn't improved and Carmel comes on to replace her at the plate and is walked. Sheryl drops a perfect bunt along the 1st base line and reaches first base, bringing home Marg. Sue is walked, Sireena hits to short stop who fumbles the ball and Linda is then walked. Niva steps up and hits a beatiful safe fly to right field, bringing home Sue & Sireena. Steph is walked and then Marg takes an out for the team (because the coach told her to lol) and hits the ball to 3rd base, who throws her out at first. Score at the top of the 2nd innings is 20-1.
First batter up for Blue hits the ball safely to short stop and makes 1st base. Next up for Blue, hits the ball to short aswell, and gets on base safely as the out was made at 2nd base. Next up has decides that short stop looks like a good spot to hit at and also makes it safely to 1st base. Rachelle, who normally plays for us, is playing for Blue today and unfortunately hits the ball straight back to Lyanne, who trows to Anne on first base, to make our 2nd out. Next batter up is walked and the bases are loaded. Next up hits a perfect hit to right field, bringing home 2 runners and making it safely to first base herself. Last batter up hits the ball to centre field and makes it to first, however, a beatiful throw down from Sireena in centre field to Sheryl to Steph, gets our third out and the umpire calls game. Final score is 20-4.
Well done ladies, the training has definitely improved your game and the coaches definitely appreciate the effort you've all been putting in.
B Grade - Galaxy 1
This week we played Outlaws 1. They won the toss and decided to bat first.
First batter up for Outlaws hit a nice hit to centre field. The next 2 batters got on base through minor errors, to load the bags. 4th batter up hit a beautiful ball to left field for a single base hit, but brought home a runner. Next to face Jenny, hit a nice, safe hit to right field to get on base and bring home another runner. 6th batter to face Jenny hit a ball to short stop, who chose to get the runner out at 3rd base, give us out first out. While the 7th batter was facing Jenny, the runner at 2nd base decided to try and steal 3rd, however, a nice throw from Deb to Sam, stopped her half way there. On her way back to 2nd base, she slid in and pop went her ankle. Time was called and then an ambulance. Due to the injury, the game was stopped there and as we had only played for 10 minutes, both teams agreed to postpone the game until the new year. Play will recommence with Outlaws1 batting at the top of the 1st with 3 runs home and 1 batter out.
I'm not sure if the girl who injured herself, actually broke her ankle or just badly sprained it (hopefully the latter), but we all wish her a quick recovery and hope she can play when we have the rescheduled game.

Last Word
Thanks again for reading and I hope you've enjoyed the newsletters, I know I've enjoyed writing them (oh, if only my high school english teacher could see me now, maybe she wouldn't have given me C's and D's for my essays hehehe).
Have a wonderful and safe Christmas break and be good or at least don't get caught. Merry Christmas everyone and see you all next year.
