Presidents Report
At last we are at the end of another long preseason. After last season’s success I am sure all concerned are very excited about Saturday’s upcoming fixture against Kew. Preseason is a very difficult time for the coaches and the committee; there is much to do, however there is no way to regularly measure performance without weekly matches being played. With that in mind I would like to extend my gratitude to all the members of the committee and coaching staff for all their hard work over the last 4 months.
Over this last preseason a high emphasis has been put on player retention. This emphasis has paid off with the club achieving its highest rate of player retention in recent memory. Additionally the club looks as though it will again field both an Under 19 and Women’s team in 2010. These two teams added much to the clubs culture in 2009 and we are looking forward to them building on the foundations they laid last year by playing some finals footy in 2010.
The club is always looking to grow and develop and in 2010 the committee and coaching staff have laid out some expected standards that we hope all players will adhere to while playing football at La Trobe. The aim of the guidelines/standards is not to create a set of hard and fast rules but rather to encourage players to take a more active role in the club. Before the teams are read out on Thursday evening these standards will be explained to the players, from this moment forward they will be displayed on the clubs website and will be highly visible throughout the club rooms. I encourage any player who has any questions about the standards to approach. Communication is a very important aspect in any organisation and an amateur football club is no exception. All members of the committee and coaching staff are very open minded so if you have something you would like to discuss please don’t hesitate to approach any of us either in person or via email.
Finally I would like to highlight the fantastic evening had by all at last month’s inaugural La Trobe University Football Club night golf tournament. Over 30 competitors attend the evening and lots of fun was had by all. Congratulations to the winning team of Tony Sheehan, Rex Hardman, Tony Blazevski and Jason Chew . Hopefully the tournament will become an annual event and will continue to grow every year.
Good Luck to all teams on the weekend.
Go Trobers
Brad

Seniors Match Report
|
The final game of the year saw the mighty Trobers venture down to Trevor Barker Oval to take on the Falcons from Albert Park. This game appeared to be a fantastic contest with one vs two, and Albert Park confident they had improved from their 2nd Semi loss to La Trobe.
Terry won the toss and La Trobe kicked with a howling gale to begin the quarter. The boys started well winning contests all over the ground and giving our forwards opportunities to score. Danger's radar was on kicking 2 for the quarter. The back six held the Falcons to one point, giving La Trobe a 26pt 1/4 time lead.
Kicking into the breeze in the second quarter was supposed to make scoring hard but someone forgot to tell our boys, who decided that a shootout with Albert Park would be better. Both sides kicking 5 goals for the quarter. Danger being the highlight with 3 goals for the quarter. La Trobe went into the half time break with a 21pt lead.
La Trobe came out from the main break looking to extend their lead, and prove why the 3rd is called the premiership quarter. La Trobe kicked 6 for the quarter with the big Ruckman, Storto, slotting 3 goals while resting up forward to continue his best on ground performance. La Trobe lead by 45 pts at 3/4 time.
The final term saw the Falcons needing to kick 8 unanswered goals to take the flag, it could be said they were up a certain creek without a paddle. La Trobe decided to ignore the breeze and kick six goals for the quarter, with Coffey's banana from the boundary being a highlight. The back six once again dominated a forward line full of big reputations, keeping the Falcons to one goal for the quarter. La Trobe run away 76pt winners and D4 2009 Premiers.
Congrats to Disco, Terry and all the boys. A great game to finish a great year.

Reserves Match Report

Well what can I say? One of the best and most successful days LTUFC has seen EVER! The day started with a long trip to sunny Sandringham and a nervous hour or two for the boys waiting for the first bounce. After the pre match formalities were dispensed with the boys set out dominating the game from start to finish.
The first quarter was boring ball up after ball up affair. It seemed that Kew tried to make the contest into a close in hard tackling affair to try and stop our now famous run and carry game. In stepped Reuben “Reubs” Dare, just as this scribe was about to fall asleep “Reubs” broke the game open with a scithing (but slow) run through the centre and a pin point 55 meter pass to smack the chest of our full forward John “johnny” McGuiness who converted for maximum points.
The pressure was then squarly on Kew at this stage and their full back showed it by gifting La Trobe 3 goals directly from his kick outs. As i said before LaTrobe dominated from start to finish conceding only 2 goals for the game and keeping Kew goalless for 3 of the 4 quarters. The backline stood steadfast all day with Joeseph “Cheese” Brooks and Tim “Hendo” Henderson obviously keeping their men quiet. But it was the back flankers Paul “Russ” Russel and Kristan “Jeffers” Jeffrey that really took the game on and blew Kew out of the water “Russ” was best on for the game.
All in all it was one of the most one sided grand finals this scribe has ever seen and was a well deserved win that backed up a year of almost totall domminace of the competiton. The boys certianly celebrated long and hard after the win.
Congratulations also need to go to Jack “Stowie” Stow for winning the Best and Fairest in a grand final year.
SEE YOU ALL NEXT YEAR BRING IT ON D3!!!!!
