Seniors Match Report
|
It was the grand final rematch from Division 3 last year La Trobe v St Johns. It proved to be the tough physical match that was expected. La Trobe started out on the back foot with St Johns up and about. While La Trobe went into the first quarter down by 2 goals we all felt that at any time La Trobe could replicate the come from behind stuff that won us the premiership last year but alas it didn’t happen. While the margin throughout the game was small St Johns lead from start to finish to win reasonably comfortably. This loss was La Trobes first loss at home in 2 years and while it is an end of a long standing dominance of the Main Oval at La Trobe it is also a reality check for everyone at LTUFC to not expect success but to earn it through dedication and hard work. In the best were Luke Dornauf who looks like will poll well in the votes this year, Jarrod Allen and Big Mark Sturges who had a good game in the ruck. Lets bounce back this week against St Mary’s Salesian.

Reserves Match Report
|
It was the dawn of an Era as for the first time in a long time the La Trobe boys rocked up with a hunger to win.
The First quarter started very well indeed. Despite the ever persistently ‘hungry’
Fat Head making his usual dismal attempt of a lead straight through star full forward Kiwis space, something unusual happened, probably for the first time in his life, Fat Head left some crumbs (pardon my pun)… These Crumbs were then spontaneously snagged by Dales-Sutton who had the class to finish from 15m out straight in front.
Danish proved hes not just a tasty treat, with some flare out of the backline helping the boys to a 3 goal lead at quarter time.
Beauy seemingly had ants in his pants in the second as he put on the afterburners and had a nice stride down the wing that lead to a goal, Beauy receives extra Kudos points for keeping the passage of play away from Scud, who is better known as turnover city. Poor Scud, but its hard not to criticise a man who would have less dream team points than he does fingers. Also exciting the crowd was Tim Amors face when he managed to stick a chest-mark, the deer-caught-in-headlights face was for all to see as the man who managed to take a chest-mark looked genuinely confused at doing so, but lucky he dragged himself back down to his usual standards with a floater kick that was worse than Fat Heads jumping capabilities. Kiwi’s leadership and everlasting finesse saw the boys run out 4 goal leaders at half time.
The 3rd quarter may as well be re-named the “biggest HUSStle of all time”. Up rose four legends, even mightier than the spice-girls and Madonna put together (although Fat Head may disagree, his always been a sucker for a good tune..). Spearheaded by Sporty Dale, and rounded out by Posh Huss, Ginger Dillan, and Maddonna Adamthwaite, the midfield mighties took their opposition to the cleaners and back as they lead a 3 goal in 3 minutes onslaught. The quarter continued in success, as Thingo “The Candy Man” Tully took his opponent to the candy shop, and let him watch a lollipop, go right over his head through the end zone. Hoges also stepped up, recently nicknamed the “Bonecrusher”, due to his ability to leave his opponent in the same state Fat Head would leave a chicken drumstick – ouch. Kiwi continued impressively and the boys pushed it to 8 goals at 3qtr time.
The last quarter was the cream on the pie – The backline held firm, thanks to some tough work from the self acclaimed real ginger spice – Tonks. Agro was also impressive, with defence better than the amusement you get out of watching Hendo trying to pick up a ball from his toes. Also to be noted was Hooke’s intimidation factor, small people with mammoth beards confuse everybody, and Coffeys ability to kick across goal in the backline about 20m in the air hospital ball.
8 goal victors.
BEST ON: Posh Huss broke more hearts, especially later that night.
Coolest Esky – Theo has a very nice esky which he serves beverages from
Best Assistant Coach – Blacky, because his only competition is J-Dub, if that…
Biggest Diver- Mitch makes Didak look tough
