Last Saturday saw the reunions of the three past premiership teams. A sit-down luncheon was attended by 80 red and black past heroes and supporters during the day, with special comments coming from representatives of the three teams. From all reports everyone had a great day, and enjoyed the current teams work out on the main oval. Thanks to everyone involved in the preparation and running of the day! Seniors Match Report
|
Round 11 saw the boys from Latrobe not only welcome Chadstone to the main Oval, but also the players from the 1969, 89 and 99 Premiership sides. And the Latrobe side was keen to impress these very important figures from the clubs past. School Holidays and injuries would also test our depth across the club.
The first quarter started as expected with the Trobers having majority of the play, but due to Chadstone's unorthodox game plan of starting the game with 3 loose blokes in defence was always going to make scoring a little harder than usual. As expected the backline had little action and kept Chadstone scoreless. Danger, Storto and Gezza slotted majors to allow Latrobe to head into the first break with a 21 pt lead.
The second quarter saw much of the same from Chadstone with a few people musing whether they had any intention of scoring at all. Rossy and Boomer caused headaches up forward for Chaddy, along with Danger who kicked another two to take his tally to 3 goals. The defence was once again left with little work to do and maintained Chadstone's duck egg. Latrobe entered the halftime break with a 53 pt lead.
The Trobers came out from half time ready to put the foot down under instruction from Terry to really bury the Chadstone boys. Starting from the centre clearance, Van Ooi maintained his influence on the contest helping to set-up many an attacking motion. Danger continued to be a handful, kicking 3 for the quarter. One of the Chadstone boys decided to wander past the centre circle into their forward line and slotted a point, breaking their scoreless run. Latrobe entered three quarter time with a 105pt lead.
The final term saw a little bit of entertainment for the crowd at the Pavilion end, starting with Thwaiter running into goals only to boot the ball out-of-bounds in front of his '99 Premiership team-mates. This was followed up by Danger taking an absolute screamer that would have nearly won him the Navara on Almost Footy Legends. The defence continued to be as ruthless as ever deciding one point was enough and not letting the Chaddy fellas score anymore. Latrobe by 143 pts.

Reserves Match Report
|
After a comprehensive win over North Brunswick, that ended in police charges and VAFA investigation the ‘Trobers started preparation for the inhabitants of the “Fashion Capital”.
The outs were Ming Yang (Broken Jaw), Hughey (OS Holiday), Jeffer (Rolled Ankle), Adam “Slayer” Gill (Family Function), John McGuiness (Noosa Holiday), Jason Mecuri (Ankle), Dion lanfranchi (Back), Nathan Johns (Snow), Dale McKee (Broken Sternum, Kyle Taylor (Hamstring), Bart Strzebonski (Helping Brother in law move), Joe Conheady (Milking Cows), Dom ConHeady (Milking Cows), Joe McClean (Seniors), Stephen Stauton (Seniors), Matt Collier (Lost), Luke Collier (Lost), Nic Atkinson (Home for Holidays), Jacob Mildren (Home for Holidays), & Matt Gardiner (broken Ribs).
The ins were Mad Paddy, Cable Sage, Cam Black, Ali Samie, Joe Brooks, Simon Marchetto, Benny Westerway, Tim McMullan, Gaffer, Ruben, Jack Stow, Cam Dobbs, & Mick Correnti.
Theo “Mr 100%” Staios found out that he was coaching a University side and that July the start of Uni Holidays. In the lead up to the game Theo spoke to every player. He spelt out exactly what he expected of them. In the pre-match address he told the boys “You have to Love it..I love it..Love the challenge, I didn’t realise how much I would love it (Coaching you boys). We have had offer from all sorts of people to pull on the boots but I want to go with the guys who have been around - The guys who show up every week.”
The inclusion of Cam Black who cut a nuggetty rugged Dermott Brereton type figure in the no.23 left Theo without a bench man and to make matters worse Cable his runner was now playing in the ruck.
With a great crowd in attendance, thanks to the “Legends of the ’69, ’89 & ’99 Premierships”; celebrating a triple anniversary-anza.; (All of these blokes would understand Theo’s plight, from their own experiences as Black and Red Warriors; ) the ‘Trobers took the ground.
Simon Marchitto did a great job in the ruck despite giving away 4 inch to his opposite number. Late in the first quarter He was causing some distress to Cable. He had been waiting for a change since the 10 minute mark. Theo, without a runner was having trouble conveying the message to Simon to come off. Once Cable got his chance he also did a commendable job finishing in the Trober’s best.
The team plan was to play a very open forward line with Craig Body and the Body (Justin Lania) playing as a double pronged attack from full forward. This paid off with the Body Doubles bagging 16 between them. The Body should have had 16 goals himself if he had of kicked straight, but a great effort to kick 9.
The forwards were helped by a constant supply of ball provided by the inclusion of Timmy McMullan and the Rock Star J-Stow on the wings. Both players had the ball on a string and were too quick and too classy for their Chadstoian opponents. Timmy played on the east wing and with a strong westerly pushing the ball to his side, he had a field day. He was clearly best on ground for mine. J-Stow ever his own harshest told the coach that is was his worst game ever. He was still in the ‘Trobers best, giving them a lot of pace and great use of the ball.
Ruben was solid in the centre, his hammy was suspect and his fitness was even more suspect. Centre Bet had him at $51 to make it through the game. With some great massage work from Special K (Jimmy Karambalos); he gave the bookmakers a fright making it to the five minute mark last quarter. A season record.
Our backs were stingy and usual. Allowing The Fashionistas only 3 goals for the whole day. Matt Vella was solid despite being slightly out of balance like Ying without Yang (omitted with broken jaw). By half time the Chady boys were looking to purchase a 10 x Zone 2 ticket. They had had enough of running up and down the graveyard. In the last quarter Matty Vella took himself off telling Theo to “give the other boys a run”.
The Coach (Mr 100%) was incredibly proud of his boys. It was an impressive effort and thoroughly enjoyed by the past players. Did anyone else notice that despite it being 3 degrees at every break Ming and Lania had their shirts off? And despite the Chady boys coming from the fashion capital they looked rather scruffy compared to our own B Van Ooey and T Ludeman.

U19 Match Report
|
It was a long morning trip to Sunbury to a signless ground hidden behind some old homestead. Running out for the warm up with 15 it wasn't looking good luckily the other 3 made it back just in time.
The rainy last couple of days made for a muddy track and it was scrappy footy in the first. Rupertswood getting a couple lucky goals early. It was very scrappy and at quarter time we were 4 goals down and it wasn't looking good.
But to our credit in the 2nd we lifted the intensity and came out firing. We started trusting ourselves to run with the footy and it paid off kicking 7 goals to 1. Ben O'Connell was great creating everytime it went to him in the forward line. In the 2nd half we put the game away and kicked 12 goals to there 3. For a great win.
It was a credit to the boys with only 18 to keep there heads up and get back into the game after a dissapointing first quarter.
Benny was best on kicking 4, Jack wasn't far away controlling the back, Kynan good as always kicking 4, Richie solid in defence, Zac showed some class on the ball and Butters ran all day.
Thanks to all the boys making an effort to come back it paid off. Also thanks to Rude and Sammy Greene for coming all the way out to. help even though they had girls footy that night
