Seniors Match Report
|
LaTrobe started well kicking into a howling gale, trading goals with the home team early in the quarter. Stauto and Joey were getting plenty of it, with the former slotting a nice sausage roll into the breeze. The good guys had 3 goals on the board mid way through, which was a great effort considering the wind. However, Albert Park snuck in 3 quick goals just before quarter time to make sure they held sway at the first break.
LaTrobe had the best of the 2nd quarter, keeping Albert Park to a solitary behind. Stauto continued his ruck dominance, while coach Sheldrick bobbed up for a couple of long goals. With most of the play for the quarter, La Trobe probably should have been in front, but scores were level going into the half time break.
The Albert Park boys were always going to fight hard to put La Trobe away in the 3rd term, but La Trobe took it right up to them despite the gale heading Albert Parks way. Poncho and Rus dominated across the backline for La Trobe, setting up many forays forward, and Steely provide a good link in midfield. However, accuracy in front of goal again cost the Trobers, kicking 1.8 to Albert Parks 4.2.
Only 2 goals behind at the start of the last, La Trobe were confident they could get over the line. Some good work from old stagers Thwaita and Sheldrick saw the visitors hit the front mid way through the term. From here it became an arm wrestle as the 2 teams traded goals, with Albert Park plucking a couple from their hind quarters. Unfortunately for LaTrobe, Albert Park kicked the winner moments before the siren sounded to end a great contest. Hopefully the boys can learn from this loss and look towards holding onto top spot on the ladder.

Reserves Match Report
|
This week La Trobe travelled to windy lake of Albert park's home ground. The day started well with La Trobe matching it with Albert Park with Gilly and Johnny McGuinness working hard up forward and the midfield pushing the ball forward frequently. Unfortunately the forward entries were put under pressure and our boys panicked and more often than not chose the wrong option. After 3 quarter time Albert Park kicked away with the wind to be the first team to beat La Trobe this year and all respect to them. Although I have a sneaking suspicion that Albert Park had set themselves for this match and judging by their over-the-top celebrations after the game that they may have played the grand final already and will not pose a threat to a full strength La Trobe Reserves side in finals. I predict the boys to bounce back this week with a resounding win against Eley Park. Go get em boys!
