Presidents report
So we are getting to the business end of the season!
The senior and reserve under 19’s teams have three games left until the end of the Home and Away season. The senior and reserve teams have 3 weeks to set themselves up for finals and the Under 19’s have 3 games to begin to lay the foundations for next year.
The girl’s season is over and they are very unlucky not to be playing finals. Watching them at Braybrook the other day it was obvious for all to see the vast improvement that has occurred in the group over the past 22 odd weeks. I would like to extend a big thank you to Martin (Bones) Debono, for the work he did coaching the girls. A big thank you and congratulations must also go to Jess Smith for the way she has got the inaugural Women’s team up and running. I would also like to congratulate all the girls who participated in the team this year, football can be a big commitment and the way all of the girls applied themselves this year was inspiring to see. The committee and the entire club are looking forward to the women’s team returning bigger and better next year, and if the steep curve of improvement continues I’m sure the team will still be in action deep into next year’s finals series.
Since I last wrote the seniors and reserves both lost games to Albert Park. While both still remain on top of the Ladder (seniors by percentage) the losses highlighted how important the way we prepare as a club during the week is to the team’s performance. While many will say that the losses we a symptom of being on the back end of University Holiday period, I don’t agree. I think the losses were a symptom of poor preparation by both teams. In the month leading into the Albert Park matches there was a distinct drop off in intensity on the training track. This lack of intensity filtered into the preparation of players on match days and in many cases the first quarters of both the senior and reserves. This resulted in the seniors and reserve teams chasing tail all day, while both teams still got very close to winning one does have to wonder that if a better attitude had been taken in to game day then maybe the club would still be undefeated in the D4 section.
Hopefully for everyone involved the smell of finals is giving all that extra little bit of motivation to go above and beyond in there preparation during the week .This will help to ensure that the club can enjoy the ultimate success in 2009.
Good Luck to all on the Weekend!
Brad

Seniors Match Report
|
This week saw Latrobe welcome Box Hill North to the wide spaces of the main oval. With BHN entrenched in the bottom part of the ladder this game had the potential to be a blowout, especially due to the fact the Trobers were looking to boost their percentage to gain their rightful spot back on top of the ladder.
The first quarter saw Latrobe kicking with the breeze, and the boys went about taking full advantage kicking 9.8 for the quarter, with Danger and Coffey kicking 2 each. The back six, with help of some midfield pressure, continued their great season not allowing BHN a chance to score for the quarter. Latrobe entered the quarter-time huddle with a 62 pt.
The second quarter saw the Trobers kicking into the breeze, but someone forgot to tell our defenders that Box Hill was meant to kick a heap of goals with the breeze and our boys only let one through the big sticks. Up the other end Danger added another couple to take his total to 4. Some great running and blocking from the Paul Russell led back six really helped to build many a forward drive. Trobers with a 99 pt half-time lead.
I didn’t see Dermie roaming around the Main Oval but it is fair to say someone gave the “line in the sand” speech to Box Hill, because they spent the second half trying to knock ours boys’ blocks off. Resulting in one of the BHN players earning himself a black card (automatic report) for kicking Skelts whilst he was laying on the ground. But it was all to no avail as the Trobers continued to dominate with Gezza and Danger kicking 3 each, as well as Rossy chipping in with 2. The back six continued to be Ebenezer Scrooge coughing up only 1 point for the quarter. Latrobe with the ¾ time lead of 156 pts.
The last quarter saw BHN continue to go the knuckle but it did not faze the Trobers who poured on 10 goals for the quarter, with Twiggy kicking 3 for the quarter. Van Ooi continued to win plenty of possession through the midfield, the back six also continued their good run only letting through 2 goals for the quarter. Latrobe run out 206 pt winners.

The most exciting action from the day?
