The Big Man Returns
Mick Mullins, La Trobe University Football Club’s first Blue winner recently returned with his son, Nicolas to visit the University. Mick now resides in Boston and is in the real estate game. One of their first stops was La Trobe’s finest piece of real estate, the Main Oval, where Mick filled the pages of his youth with glory.
Mick had a short but highlight filled careers with La Trobe before it was cut short by injury. He was a Club Best and Fairest, League Best and Fairest, All Australian Rep player, and Interleague Representative. Mick also contributed of as a coach of the Senior and Intervarsity Teams and featured regularly in the pages of the Club’s esteemed journal “Rort”. His team mate Tony Sheehan, Coach Emeritus of the La Trobe University Football Club remembers Mick fondly, stating “Mick’s exploits mark him as one of La Trobe’s best both on and off the field”

While here Mick and Nicholas caught up with some of La Trobe’s greats, Tony Sheehan, Russell Badham, Glenys (Hahn) Sheldrick and Rex Hardman to watch the La Trobe win comfortably over Kew in the first game of the 2010 season

Seniors Match Report
|
After a convincing win in round 1, La Trobe faced another tough challenge.
For the first time David McMaster was leading the club in the absence of Terry, the boys also welcomed back Boomer a former club BnF winner, big game player and all round superstar.
The first quarter La Trobe controlled possession but due to some inaccurate kicking and some lack of discipline didn't really put on any scoreboard pressure. The 2nd quarter was much of the same with La Trobe controlling most of the play but could only manage 2 goals 10 points for the half, some really poor kicking for goal, despite this the boys where pretty confident that they could go on and push ahead.
At the start of the 2nd half it was a different story, Boomer was thrown forward to give a bit of structure and it paid dividends with the boys going bang bang bang, with 3 quick goals, and Big Danger finally got his kicking boots on, and once again Ganino the human highlight reel provided something for the humble crowd after weaving through a few players and snapping a wonderful goal. the boys went into the break with about a 6 goal lead.
The last quarter felt like a shoot out, as goals were flying at each end with the big man slotting goals at will ending up 7 , the boys ended up with a convincing win, with only one sour note, Disco's discipline was again getting him into trouble with the big man sent off for verbal abuse .... on a more positive note Dave Harry in his second game was best on ground in a dominant performance.
Another great win 2 from 2, but this week is the grand final rematch and Albert Park will come out for blood can't wait.
Hope to see you all on Saturday for a hard game.

Reserves Match Report
|
Round 2 had the La Trobe boys playing Elsternwick for our first home game of the year. It would be our first true test as Elsternwick are a D3 side.
The first quarter was an even affair but Ross “Slattsy” Slater kicking 3 goals in quick time and dishing off a few as well. In the second quarter La Trobe started to open the game up with Steven “thwaiter” Adamthwaite using his pace and precision helicopter passes to set up many an attacking thrust and Johseph “Cheese” Brooks running himself to complete exhaustion to set up goals. In the last half Elsternwick started to tire and their poor skills let them down going forward. La Trobe and in particular Anthony “Kell” Kelly took advantage of Elsternwick's tiring legs and extended the lead at each break. Anthony “Kell” Kelly kicking 3 in the last quarter really was the icing on the cake.
Next week La Trobe host Albert Park at home in what should be another good win for La Trobe.

U19 Match Report
|
With 18, 1st game players we were entering the unknown going into the first round. With only a couple of hit outs against sides in other divisions it was hard to judge. With plenty of numbers and talent at training things were looking positive.
Out of the blocks the boys didn't look like they were going to disappoint. Butters and Kynan were instrumental in the midfield, dominating the early clearances. With Carl, Alex Brereton, George and Josh all providing a target up forward. We went into quarter time 5 goals to 1.
Things in the 2nd quarter started a bit slower the first 10 minutes produced allot of kick to kick between the respective half back lines. But it was the last 15 minutes when our domination in the midfield finally translated on to the scoreboard. Putting on 7.8 to 0.3 including a Ganino-esq goal kicked out of mid air by Sutto (and didn't he let us know about it on Saturday night). Only our poor kicking kept Bulleen in the game.
At half time Gil put it to the boys the match was far from over and to wipe the scoreboard clean for the 2nd half. We didn't let him down, they hit us hard at the start of the 3rd kicking a few early goals but to our credit we fought back hard kicking 12.7 to 6.6 in the second half.
The backline was great all day Huss didn't lose a contest all day, Liam and Killa with plenty of run off the flank. Renfrey, Justin and Alex Brain held their opponents and showed us they could defend as well as attack hitting plenty of targets running out of defence.
The midfield killed it Kynan, Butters, George and Hookey great all day. Alex B great in the ruck also kicking 4 goals.
The forward line looked dangerous every time the ball entered Carl dominating his man for a return of 5 goals. A special mention to Optumus Prime (Todd) kicking 2 goals, shows what he can do when he stays off it on a Friday night.
There were plenty of positives to come out of the weekend everyone contributed their part for a great 114 point first up win.
For a group who have only played a couple of practice matches together they showed if they can stick together, continue good numbers at training and put in some hard work they are very capable of taking up to the best in the Under 19 competition.
We would also like to congratulate our leadership group for 2010:
Kynan Borthwick (Captain), Zac Atkins (Vice Captain), Grant Dowler & Liam Toohey (Deputy Vice Captain) and Michael Harney.
