Seniors Match Report
|
It was the grand final rematch from last year and these two teams were not strangers and had played 4 times last year with La Trobe having a 3/4 record including the grand final.... so Albert Park came out wanting revenge but would they achieve their goal??
With the pre match ceremony , to honour the Anzacs there was a bit more fire in the players eyes.
With Terry back in he was once again in charge of his team and urged his players to start well, after a string of recent poor starts.
That's exactly what he got with the Trober's kicking the first 6 goals with a strong breeze.
The first quarter went to plan with the Trober's up by 5 goals, but had to face a stiff wind in the second quarter and in true parkers spirit they fought back and restricted the margin to 20 points at the major break.
The players dressing rooms looked more like a war zone with a number of key players struggling with injuries and with half the forward line playing on one leg.
The 3rd quarter started well for La Trobe with a number of goals but could not break Albert Park and they threatened to cause an upset remaining only 20 points down going into the last quarter and with a strong wind.
But they never got close enough to worry La Trobe winning comfortable in the end by 21 points although a few players lacking discipline towards the end of the game being sent off.
Another great win although a major challenge this week with allot of key players out and facing the in form UHS-VS.

U19 Match Report
|
After many years of waiting it seems the La Trobe Uni Under 19s have fielded a decent side, although no one would know this because 90% of the players are first years.
Leading up to the game there was much speculation about the whereabouts of Waldo? After searching for two weeks, and even remembering to look for him in red and black, instead of his traditional red and white, the little guy has still not been discovered!
The Boys headed to Ivanhoe for their round 2 encounter at the fresh time of 9-30am. The first quarter was an indication the game was going to be close. La Trobe with a narrow lead at the first change, after the opposition kicked 7 behinds. Scud was impressive considering he was playing on a bloke who looked like he had just eaten two of his team-mates before the game, providing plenty of dash and finesse. It was also good to have the Vice Skipper Zac back after missing round one with Prolific Mistune Sufficiency (PMS).
The 2nd quarter was much like the first, and is probably a blur to Michael Gioskos, who has trouble maintaining consciousness. The boys showed their team spirit by putting in all the one percenters, tackles and smothers were frequent. Daley Bear showed us his Northern Knights Talents, definitely an AFL prospect after showing he can only run out one quarter of u/19 north division 2 game.At half time is was Latrobe 6.4.40 to Ivanhoe 4.8.32.
Congratulations to Kynan, with a career best one handball. This revolutionised the Trober's in the 3rd Quarter, with many people thrown into disarray and possibly the reason we lost the third quarter. Or perhaps it was Hooke, who decided we were winning by too much and decided to centre the ball in the backline to his opponent at the top of the goal-square. Either way, it was a hard fought out quarter. Special mentions go to Justin and Renfrey for a solid backline performance. Huss showed us how he got the nickname the general, with a dominant display down back, although this could be due to his opponents’ lack of vision from the glare off those bright blue fruity new boots. 3 Quarter time gave LTU a slender 2 point lead.
All guns blazing it was on in the fourth. A slow starting quarter saw impressive ruckwork from Carl Joyce and speccy that would shame Jesalenko himself, thanks to Brad for doubling a step ladder to make Karl’s flight possible. The Hoes hit the lead in the last, as LTU went to panic stations. But a re-vigoured Hooke quickly helped put LTU back in front. Liam Toohey was on fire all day, and Axle booted a major at a crucial point in the last. Geordie showed us impressively that kicking out on the full can be a tactic, and that we should think about it more carefully before we make it one of our fines. Killa looked good, it’s a shame he didn’t play well, deciding to copy Sutto’s tactics of playing on at every opportunity, showing this effectively by playing on 20m out straight in front and kicking into the man on the mark.
Axle turned up on the radar in the fourth, after being “gone cold” for 3 quarters, but good on you mate with the match winner. It was a tight fourth but eventually the Trober's maintained their top of the ladder position after round 2, defeating Ivanhoe by 9 Points. It was good to see last years co-captain Haidar Al Saffar come down and watch his beloved young Trober cubs have a good hit out, being out this year after a knee-recon.
B.O.G could be shared amongst a few players, but Sutty’s B.O.G goes to Carl Joyce
W.O.G goes to Killa, for playing on 20m out straight in front and kicking into the man on the mark... at the most critical stage in the match.
Most Determined- goes to Josh Dunn, keep practicing and you’ll master the drop punt mate
Coaches Award- Gill for a solid performance, very encouraging, and well groomed. And not afraid to show off his hickey on his leg.
Legendary Act Award- Hooke for playing the math, even after a groin complaint from late Thursday night.
Boys wait to next Friday for their next hit-out, eager for the game and eager for a possible glimpse of Deputy Vice Captain, the superstar himself, Haansy.

Women's Match Report
|
Round 3 saw the Women’s team traveling to Bell Post Hill (Geelong) on Anzac Day to take two from two in an impressive display of team work, and leadership.
The intensity built from the first bounce and the Trobers quickly learnt that the Geelong girls were not going to be an easy defeat.
The girls in the centre ran hard all day and owned the clearances in the second half. They took some hard knocks and gave their share. Jess McIver was awesome in the ruck and influential across the field.
A 10% tougher Skye led her team and the back line by taking some fantastic defensive marks in the crucial stages of the game- ensuring the opposition couldn’t get close enough to poke the tiger.
Bec provided a handy target in the forward line while Sammy Green decided she only wanted to kick goals over her shoulder.
The Trobers were brilliant in the final term. Geelong hit the lead momentarily and that inspired an incredible team performance. One Scrotie played at an intensity that upset her breakfast and temporarily forced her from the ground in the last quarter.
Next week the girls will get an indication of where they stand amongst the league when they host Lalor in the game of the round. We’d love to see you all down there!
Big thanks to Quatta, Guiness, and Rueban for their ongoing help, and all the supporters that made the trip to Geelong. A special mention must also go to the friendly hospitality of the Egyptians!
