Seniors Match Report
|
Saturday saw La Trobe venture away from the familiar surroundings of the Main Oval, to battle the Manningham Cobras at Koonung Reserve in Bulleen. La Trobe was missing a couple of club stalwarts due to injury, The Prez missed due to the on-field nose job he was given against Mt. Lilydale, and Thwaita's dementia was playing up causing him to have trouble finding his house let alone marshalling the troops in the back line. These absentees saw Gilly and Gezza given their chance to suit up for the seniors.
The Trobers started the game in fine form moving the ball well through the middle of the ground, and the forward line looked like it was going to be a handful with Danger and the boys getting plenty of chances in front of goal. The defence was also well on top keeping the Cobra's scoreless for the quarter. The only blemish being La Trobe's poor kicking in front of goal finishing the quarter with 3.5 and a quarter time lead of 23 pts.
The second quarter started in similar fashion with the boys from the Main Oval continuing their dominance across all aspects of the game. Lude’s put on a display of precision passing, Danger led hard and remained a constant target up forward, and the defence, led by Skelts, kept giving the Cobras very limited opportunities. Inaccurate kicking once again dogged the Trobers finishing the quarter with 4.8, extending their led to 42 pts going into the main break.
The boys came out after halftime ready to put Manningham to the sword, and started accordingly with Joey Conheady kicking 2 goals in the space of about 2 minutes. The Cobra's tried to peg back the Trobers but it was a case of too little to late, the La Trobe forwards, led by Danger and Rossy, continued their dominance in front of goal, with inaccurate kicking still being their downfall. The three quarter time margin being 50 pts.
The final quarter saw the continuation of the La Trobe show featuring Terry Ludeman, as he continued his best on ground performance. Danger added 2 goals to take his final tally for the game to 5. The boys down back continued their good form giving the Cobra's only 1pt for the quarter. The La Trobe boys finished the quarter well kicking 6.2 to remain undefeated and at the sharp end of the ladder. The final result being a 97pt win for the mighty Trobers.

Reserves Match Report
|
It was our first away game for the year on the weekend and as we know it is always harder to win away. The game was in the balance early with the Manningham cobras kicking the first goal, but after that first minute goal it was all La Trobe with John McGuinness firing up forward, kicking another 6 and providing a great target. The older heads down back like Bart, Ming and Matty Vella were rebounding every attacking thrust from the opposition, and by the end of the first half La Trobe was 8 goals ahead.
The Manningham cobras knew from the first bounce that we were a quicker and more skilful side, and decided to try and bash us to defeat with hard late hits after play had stopped and dropping in the knee at any chance. But much kudos to the boys who rose above it and played with good spirit and fair play.
After half time Theo ever the clever tactician decided the backline was not getting enough of a run so he switched the backs with the forwards just like under 12s (a somewhat arrogant idea) but it worked and gave our backline players such as Bart a chance to kick some goals. Around about this time the Manningham Cobras dropped there heads completely and the Trobers kicked away for another huge win.
