Seniors Match Report
|
La Trobe heading in were 3 from 3 and UHS had dropped the one game and were expected to be tough competition especially since La Trobe had 6 key players out, with injury and other commitments, this would challenge their depth but also give a great opportunity to some of the guys who had been playing good footy in the twos to have their chance.
playing at UHS, smallish ground and a strong wind probably about a 5 goal wind, winning the toss Latrobe kicked with the wind in the first quarter and it played dividends as the boys got off to a strong start kicking 6 goals to 2 in the first quarter, although could of been a lot greater with a few missed chances, but still a great quarter for the boys.
The second was the opposite of the first with the UHS boys having the wind and with it most of the play for the quarter, the back 6 kept fighting and were able to force the errors from the UHS players. the Latrobe forwards were starved of ball so when it came down they didn’t let it out without a score and where able to convert 4 goals from 5 inside 50s, to hold a handy lead going into the main break.
Disco could not stress enough that this was the quarter that we needed to lift and that is exactly what he got out of the boys with a punishing display of fast moving footy and were able to break the UHS backs and push ahead, and going into the last change the trobers held a 10 goal lead and the game was over.
the last quarter was just a formality and the boys rounded out the game with a comfortable win, although if UHS had kicked straight the game would have been much closer.
Again Dave Harry impressed, class act.... while all of the new guys did their jobs and will make it hard for selectors on Thursday night. there are still a few big names out this week so Latrobe’s depth will be tested again, but should be buoyed by the flag raising ceremony so come one come all should be a fantastic day for the boys and hopefully they can make it 5 form 5.......

U19 Match Report
|
Friday Night Footy set the stage for Round 3.
The boys rocked up looking handsome a good hour and a half before the bounce, although none more handsome than Ben Dales-Sutton in his nice suit and tie, he’s so beautiful and witty too.
The boys rocked out onto the ground in dewy and sub-Celsius conditions. Josh Dunn was especially cold as he was on the pine. The first quarter was slow-starting, but eventually saw LTUFC head into the break with a 4-5 goal lead. Carl Joyce was instrumental showing he would be a champion of ‘Sue in the Glue’ with his very adhesive mitts. Comprehensive PlayerCam revealed Todd had 0 possessions to quarter time, while Liam Toohey seemed to have somehow obtained the Midas touch and was in double figures.
Once again Killa Karl Anderson looked amazing, and once again it’s a shame he can’t play as well as he looks, another genuine W.O.G effort for failing to be “Jack in the Pack” and take a mark (uncontested) for the match.
The second quarter was party time for the Trober's, many blokes chipping in for goals, this of course excluding Watto who skilfully showed everyone a way to miss from 10m out straight in front – superstar. At the half it was the Trober's by a good 80 points, Carl Joyce did not manage to meet his 5 goal challenge issued to him by last weeks “coaches award recipient” ‘Sweet Chilli Gilly’.
The 3rd quarter was a dismal performance by the Trober's, their opposition almost matching them in score. Although the lack in concentration was not to say there was all bad football. Chuck (random on the wing with the black hair- think that’s ya name mate) found all the open space, and was good in his delivery to the forwards. Axle was solid all game taking contested marks, and converting, it’s strange to think just the day before he was going into an exam after vomiting everywhere out the front. Axle also showed good aggression – leaving the ground with two different peoples blood on his jumper. Anyhoo – A creepy fog can also be blamed for the 3rd quarter slump, with a cemetery next door, the atmosphere was rather – creepy (or maybe it was just the presence of Huss that everyone looking sideways). Scud left the game at this point, he had a hairdressers appointment for his weekly perm.
After a blasting from Gill at 3 qtr time, the boys headed into the 4th.
Tickets were purchased, and everyone was mesmerised by Kynan Show in the fourth, after telling everyone he couldn’t play next week due to a sore hand, he came out as if someone had stuck a swarm of bees in his undies - taking courageous marks, and kicking gun-barrel-straight goals. Hooke was a genuine crumber, managing to snag one through the big hole we call a goal, and so good he managed to dribble it along the ground. Kudos again to the midfield, Stevo, Zak, Justin, That kid in the ruck, and the rest. Trober's eventually winning by 140 or so. 49 scoring shots capped off another solid effort.
Trober's now top the u/19 north div 2 ladder. Viva la viva La Trobe. Viva la Vosidy! Next week the boys tackle the only other undefeated team on the fixture at home, Therry Penola.
B.O.G- near impossible to tell when you win by 140, but you cant look past that new bloke in the ruck, Joyce’s mitts, and Kynans last quarter. 3 way tie.
Most Improved- Todd played 100% better than he did the week before
Coaches award- Gill for actually using the interchange this week
Most evasive- Waldo! Where are you mate!
Triple J’s Friday #*!@wit – Renfrey for being outrun by a snail
Encouragement award- Mick G for maintaining consciousness and remembering the game.

Women's Match Report

La Trobe first home game was always going to be a challenging one against the new and improved Lalor Park Stars. The round saw La Trobe start with a record 7 on the bench and proved to be a challenging task to select and rotate players this week.
The 1st quarter started off well with Bec Dunkley putting our first score on the board. Amy Shrive took out a well deserved best on, as one of our smallest players; it was amazing to see her throw herself into contests with such determination.
Elise Brentnall along with the entire backline did a tremendous job at keeping Lalors very skillful forward line in check. While Caitie Mitchell didn’t have anyone stretchered off this week, she still put in a great effort over the day, as did new recruit Lou Kane.
It was a very physically tough game against Lalor and we knew they would throw everything at us. Danger certainly earned his keep this week, with a few more injuries to keep him busy. A.Johns walked away sporting a nice black eye, while Imo’s courageous efforts ended in her being flattened to the ground, but thankfully only walking away with a bruised behind and captain Skye gave us a scare as she went down with an elbow injury. Needless to say we are looking forward to having this week off to rest and recover for our next home game against the equally challenging Sunbury FC.
It was great to see so many parents down for the game this week. Thanks to Rex Hardman and all those players who also got down to support the girls. Thanks again to those guys who give up their time to help us each Sunday and a special mention to Carol who has time kept and organized our oranges and snakes for every game since we started.
Thanks to all those girls who have been coming to training every week too, it’s great to see so much commitment from you all. Also, almost all of the girls have now paid their fees, which is a terrific effort, so thanks for being so organized girls!
We hope you all get down to our next home game at 12pm on 16h May as we take on Sunbury.
