Presidents Report
I recently had the pleasure or displeasure depending on which way you want to look at it, of listening to the recently retired Nathan Buckley speak at the 2009 VAFA season launch. I found it a little perplexing as to why the VAFA would choose a man who has lined his pockets full of cash to talk to presidents, secretaries and players about why we should all love and embrace our amateur status. Never the less, Bucks did make a few good points. None of these were more pertinent than the one Bucks opened his key note address with; A quote from the former US President Theodore Roosevelt:
"It is not the critic who counts: not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs and comes up short again and again, because there is no effort without error or shortcoming, but who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, who spends himself for a worthy cause; who, at the best, knows, in the end, the triumph of high achievement, and who, at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who knew neither victory nor defeat."
Bucks went on to explain that he used this quote to motivate him throughout his 280 AFL games. As a man who had his fair share of knockers during his career, especially in the early stages, I would imagine the first line was the one that appealed to him the most. As a club I think we can take a lot from the rest of the quote. For years the La Trobe University Football Club has been accused internally of not reaching its potential. This season it seems as though we have the cattle to enjoy some on field success. Just having the cattle on the field won’t get the job done alone. We also need continued effort at training, preparation between games and effort on game day as well, to ensure success. At the moment all signs are positive. But as the evenings get colder and darker and if we continue to have success, it could be easy to get complacent and slack. So if you ever need a bit of motivation do that extra little bit, just remember the quote above. Because it is that kind of attitude that will lead the La Trobe University Football Club to the ultimate success.

A function to be held in honour of the 3 premiership teams will occur on the 4th of July. Event will include a formal luncheon whilst the Trobers are playing, and a less formal feed in the evening while the girls play under lights!

We would like you to celebrate this special occasion for the club, with all 3 men’s teams playing at home on Saturday, with the under 19s on centre stage, playing at 6.30 pm under lights.
La Trobe University Football Club has recently undergone some major changes both on and off the field with a new youthful president taking the helm, refurbished and upgraded facilities and an enhancement to the lighting system providing one of the highest quality football arenas in Melbourne as well as one of the only Victorian Amateur Football Association venues capable of football under lights.
Through representing La Trobe University in the sporting arena, our players are provided with a unique experience, incorporating a passion for education, sport and mateship which facilitates the development of many skills and characteristics that will make them stand above others in their chosen field. This occasion provides a unique opportunity for families, players and senior club officials to come together and cultivate a strong enduring relationship to further enhance the development of your children both as footballers and future leaders in their designated fields of study.

Seniors Match Report

Box Hill Nth flew out of the blocks with a quick early goal spurring the Trobers into action. After being beaten to the ball in the first 5 minutes, the boys took control with some precision passing and hard running resulting in a 10 goal quarter. Paddy led the way with some tough efforts, and Coffee split the lines (maybe just the one line on this tiny ground) with confident running.

The 2nd quarter played out similarly to the first, with some early scores to the home team before La Trobe resumed ascendancy. Coff and Quatta continued to dominate, whilst Danger proved to be just that up forward, with a big haul in his sights. La Trobe up by 12 goals at half time.
The 2nd half saw the home team flagging, with La Trobe simply to quick, and harder working. The game threatened to turn ugly as a few fists were flying. However, La Trobe continued to combine well to post 7.7 for the quarter. Boomer continued to show his versatility with some goals up forward, and Joey Conheady dominated in the middle and up forward.
The last quarter was a formality, and a chance for Danger to fill up his bag with goals. The dukes were firing well, and a mark and goal in the final minutes led to a 10 goal haul! Only some inaccurate kicking (1.6 for one unnamed player! ) prevented an even bigger win for the Trobers.
