Seniors Match Report
|
Round 5 saw the mighty Trobers back at the Main Oval, to take on the boys from Eley Park. Rumours had been circling the league that the Eley Park Sharks were extremely confident in their abilities to take the fight up to our boys, and that by the end of this game there would be one less undefeated team roaming the Ammos. Time would tell. Another round, saw another debutant with Vaggy suiting up for his first senior game for the Trobers.
Latrobe started the first quarter well, getting plenty of the pill through the middle and the forward line. Latrobe use of the ball by foot was probably the only reason they did not finish the quarter with a bigger lead. Danger finished the quarter with 3 goals, and looked like another 10 goal bag was on the cards. Coffey and Xav also started to make their mark on the game. Latrobe led by 17 pts.
The second quarter saw much of the same, with Latrobe getting plenty of the ball up forward and peppering the goal face. Danger added another 2 goals to take his tally to 5 for the half. Boomer put together a very solid first half down back. Vaggy showed no nerves in his first senior game having a great impact on the contests around the ground.
Latrobe went into half time with a 40 pt lead, and making Eley Park's earlier comments look very foolish.
The Trobers came out after half-time and continued their good form from the first half. Showing the boys from Eley Park how footy is played on the big open spaces of the Main Oval. Quatta continued his solid performance and continued his influence on the game. Coffey and Sheildsy kept up their earlier form showing the Sharks how to go about it. Danger added another 3 moving onto 8 goals for the game. The Trobers entered the 3/4 time huddle with a 68 pt lead.
The last saw much of the same finishing of a solid four quarter performance through all sections of the ground. Danger dominated up forward taking grab after grab, just a little bit of inaccuracy in front of goal cost him another 10 goal bag. Coffey played another good game of the forward flank having a lot of influence in the Trobers movements up forward. Xav and Quatta were terrific through the midfield, along with Vaggy in the ruck. Boomer played well down back leading many a rebound from defence. The Trobers finished up with a 77pt win. Viva Latrobe.

Reserves Match Report
|
Well the La Trobe Juggernaut just continues to roll on with another 100 point win for the boys. The first term was a relatively even contest with Latrobe having one of there worst quarters kicking only 5 goals. "Thwaiter" coming back from concussion was back to his old self providing great run and carry interspersed with helicopter kicks into the forward line. Meanwhile "Kell" was continuing his stellar form with a few early goals. To be fair Eley Park made a good showing in the first quarter battling hard and kicking 2 goals to keep us honest. In 5 short minutes to start the second quarter John "Johnny" McGuinness had 4 goals to kick start Latrobe. By now the midfield had total control and the back line stood up with "Cheese" again playing at full back on another guy who weighed about 140 kilos providing plenty of run as his man could not even manage a jog. The second half went much like every other week with LaTrobe improving on their first half lead and finishing the game of well. The highlight of the second half was Greg "frenchy" Bretiere returning and playing his best game for the club which included a scything run and clearance from a centre bounce to deliver down Gillys throat. In conclusion LaTrobe dominated from the second quarter onwards, hopefully next week South Mornington will provide our first real test for the year. I urge our boys to prepare well and send a message to the rest of the competition and give these guys a pantsing.

Women's Match Report
|
As the crowd built, WITH GEELONG SUPPORTERS! The girls were excited and so was Bones, knowing that we may have a chance to put a win on the board. After a slow first half with only a few highlights: Skye saving our backline and bec "i can't see, I can't see" smuthering a ball with her face, it was not the game we had hoped for.
After a big rev up from bones at half time the girls were ready to make a mends on our slow start. Some inspirational plays by captain courageous Kennedy and a mean tagging effort from Sarah McMullan, saw the trobers start to make a move. Sammy finally rediscovered the centre of the goal posts, kicking three goals for the game.
Grace tried her best to make amends for ruining the captains couch the previous thursday, by going in hard and showing her true colours. Our skills continue to show improvement and our attack on the ball reached new heights, sending two Geelong players off the ground on the strecher with broken ribs. In the dying minutes of the game Bones could not control his excitement, as he paced up and down the sidelines with a cheeky grin.
Finally a win on the board, with the only downer being we did not know the song!
Thank you to Jack Elliot, Danger, Ron Adams and Quatta, who were among the very few who got down to the game to show their support. We hope that others can make the effort in the future.
