Share the pride, the spirit and success of being a Rotarian.
It is important to understand our past, to recognise and celebrate our achievements;
This gives us pride and confidence to go forward and realise our future and potential.
Our Past Presidents or Feather Dusters as they are known will visit the club this week and we are certainly in for a stimulating and rewarding meeting. From my readings and meetings of Past Presidents they share an enormous amount of wisdom and are always available to give advice and suggestions on the club and the wider world of Rotary.
We are very lucky to have so many who are prepared and well and healthy to join us for lunch on Tuesday. This is all about being a Rotarian.
In our club history Achieving for Others by Brian Fletcher it is very clear that the challenges of the past are no different than the challenges of today the only difference is the speed at which the issues arise and the impact on the club due to number of members and the community in which we now live.
Each of our presidents have left an indelible mark on the clubs history; the uniqueness of The Rotary Club of Sydney still remains. Many of the Presidents allowed the club to develop to become more profiled an also expand into different sectors of community and spread to different parts of the city via new clubs or alignments with new and different networks.
Our club has evolved and this is reflective of the changing nature of the community, some would say that is good and others would disagree. Our club is still prominent and the fact it can reflect on the achievements of the past is no stroke of luck.
It is the strong leadership and direction that has allowed the club to survive and arrive where it is today. It is also the spirit and pride that exists not to mention the loyalty of its members.
We have our challenges as does any organisation to remain relevant and continue to grow and reinvent ourselves; it is how we meet and manage the challenges going forward.
This is the challenge of all future Presidents and our members. It is a shared responsibility that we all must harness and recognise.
We as members can make a difference by continuing to share the pride and spirit of being a Rotarian.
