Give a man a fish;
and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.
Education training and development are vitally important in our world.
"Education Matters" is an appropriate theme for our club as we have many activities and projects whose outcomes relate to better education, skills and development. We reward recognise and encourage development that will enhance individuals and organisations to deliver better training, education and improved knowledge.
The Soukup Scholarships, together with the University of New South Wales Scholarships are educationally based with a bias towards those who need assistance as a result of their disposition.
The Inspire Foundation another part to the Presidents Project will involves us helping young people to develop in the Beanbag program. It is a program that helps those with mental illness reconnect with society through different forms of IT.
Education comes in various forms and the Presidents Project this year reflects this theme.
Last week was an extremely rewarding meeting.
The presentation of $250,000 to David Conry of Youngcare by the Hon Tony Abbott was a real pleasure and an honour to have him as our guest.
This was an excellent example of Rotary in action, however the surprise, was a performance by a wonderful pianist Marcella Crudeli, a PHF from the Rotary Club of Roma Ovest.
Marcella played a piece from Chopin which was just outstanding.
We have a new PR Director of our club Tony Benner, who has agreed to join the Board. Louise de Francesca unfortunately has not been well and has had to stand down. We are very fortunate that Tony has agreed to join and with his experience and his District PR responsibilities our club will certainly benefit.
We will be hearing more from Tony on the subject of PR and how we can all get involved.
This last week both Ray Patteson and Gerry Rihs has not been well and we all wish them a speedy recovery.
The meeting this week will feature the Presidents project and I look forward to presenting this and also sharing the ideas of where we are going as a club.
I look forward to seeing you Tuesday
President Garry
