What a busy lot we are!
The Club is brimming with enthusiastic activity at the moment.
Gerry Rihs PP
PP Gerry Rihs has had a fantastic outcome for his HIPPY Project at La Perouse. So you think this is about a hirsute flower person? You’re wrong! Come along to Lunch on Tuesday and find out what it’s really all about!
Ken Hacker
Rotarian Ken Hacker scored a container load of new clothing which he promptly donated and we are currently looking at ways to get these goods shipped and distributed to some of our Island neighbours. Thanks Ken.
Ray Block
Rotarian Ray Block gave an impassioned plea to members at Lunch last week, to nominate a worthy recipient for the prestigious Rotary Club of Sydney Community Service Award. Who can you think of who merits this honour?
Mark Dyer
Rotarian Mark Dyer outlined plans for the traditional Newcastle visit on Monday 8th October. Roger Corbett will be the Guest Speaker so if you’re interested, get your name to Mark pronto.
Ted McKeown & Harry Fox
Rotarian Ted McKeown has worked assiduously on re-vamping the Club’s Induction process for new members. A million thanks Ted!
Committee Chair, Harry Fox is now waiting to be swamped with new member nominations. Who do you know? Not just anyone … someone like you who will add value to our vibrant and dynamic Club.
Active New Members
Isn’t it great to see our latest members, Sarah Toyne {PR} John Breene {Law} and Deny Bernardo {Real Estate} … pitching in already and enjoying the fellowship?
Simon Martin & Robert Mitchell
Rotarians Simon Martin and Robert Mitchell are doing a great job co-ordinating the weekly Volunteer roster for ‘front of house’. Enough however is barely enough, so if you could assist, Simon/Robert would be happy to hear from you. Thanks Simon and Robert … and everyone else who regularly and reliably does a stint! Dear Ron Dunk, are you listening? Thank you.
Sam Leon
Former member Sam Leon joined us for Lunch last week and outlined the background, development and future of his new initiative for placing experienced mature age candidates into the workforce in a meaningful capacity. Good luck Sam.
Guest Speakers this week will be the GSE [Group Study Exchange] team from North Carolina, USA. Our own member, Rotarian Les Strong, will also share his experiences as a former GSE team member. Special thanks to PE Patricia Harrison and Executive Officer, Dianne Ward, for home-hosting team members.
Events Committee update:
Have you organized a table for the YumCha Trivia Night yet? It’s on Sat. 10 November at Sky Phoenix Restaurant. Would you like to join a table? Talk to Taine Moufarrige quickly.
Welsh Choir Recital: Wed. 21 November, 7pm. Cello’s Dining Room. Tickets for this Choral Concert will be $50 per head with all proceeds going to the President’s Projects. Details from Adrian Pilton.
Floyd Collins theatre night: in a Press release just received, Peter Cousens has announced the cancellation of the FC season due to lack of patronage. Hopefully we will be able to support this fledgling Musical Theatre company in 2008.
BUT wait … there’s more … details shortly.
See you at Lunch.
Ann Burleigh Acting President.
