4A Match Report
Saturday 8th August v. Northside Monash
Saturday was one of our best performances for the year. We passed the ball around really well and created more opportunities than we have in any other game all season all season. As Goalie, I had little to do, which was testament to how well the whole team played. The 1 – 0 score line was not a true reflection of our dominance.
The good news is that with our 1 – 0 win we finished 4th with 20 points. This is a great result, from where we were last year, and how we started the year. We played 14, won 6, drew 2, lost 6, scored 28 goals and had 33 scored against us. Mt Colah finished 1st with 37 points, West Pymble 30 and Lane Cove West 29 points.
As a result we will play a semi-final this Saturday against Mt Colah, and the winner will play against the winner of West Pymble and Lane Cove West the following Saturday in the Final, while the loser will be knocked out.
On Saturday night we had the 10th Anniversary Dinner at the Kirribilli Club, which was also our awards night. Each of the Managers made a small speech, regaled anecdotes and also awarded the best and fairest award to the players who had scored the most points from your weekly votes. In 3rd place,, after a great year in multiple positions (but mostly centre back) was Steve Cox (109 points), runner up after holding up the right side defence all year was Dave Vokes (129 points) and the best and fairest for the 4s this year was Dave Coote (198 points), who I am sure you will all agree had a great season holding the mid field together. Dave was also the highest point scorer in any Team and was awarded the Clubs best and fairest as well.
One player that I omitted to mention in my speech on Saturday night (apologies Steve) was Steve Green. As you are aware Steve currently lives in Singapore and made the trip back to play for us six times during the season. Steve also had a great season and always held the defence together when he played. Steve – we really appreciate the effort you made to get back to play as often as you did.
Finally, all shirts have to be returned at the end of the season. On the basis we may lose this week, please bring a spare shirt so that I can collect them. You get to keep your shorts, socks (and track suit).
