Knox Little Athletics Club (KLAC) is an athletics club for school children 6 to 16 years of age of all abilities. KLAC is affiliated with the Victorian Little Athletics Association. KLAC is based in the city of Knox in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne Victoria. We celebrated our 40th anniversary in the 2008/2009 athletics season.
KLAC currently has over 700 athletes enrolled for the 2009/2010 season. These athletes compete in a range of events from walking, running, hurdles, jumping and throwing. The running events comprise sprints, middle distance, and for the older age groups, long distance events. During the winter months KLAC also have Cross Country competitions for all age groups. The jumping events include long, high and triple jump, and the throwing events include javelin, discus and shot put, and for the older age groups, hammer throw.
KLAC recognize the importance in providing equipment and up to date facilities to cater for the future of Australian athletics. We currently have State and National Junior representatives and we have just had an athlete in the World Junior Championships.
We encourage all parents of athletes to participate and we also know for some children, this is their only activity outside school and we try to make it as enjoyable as possible. We also know it is a good way for parents to communicate as they have a common interest. The older athletes are also encouraged to train the younger age groups under supervision, to return back to the sport that which they have enjoyed, and to facilitate ownership. To date we have had a great success with progressing Juniors into the Senior competition over the 2009/2010 season.
As you can see from the above, KLAC is completely voluntary where we encourage participation in all aspects from ground set up, competition, marshalling and administration.
As a club we welcome financial support from Local, State and Federal Governments. To date we have been unsuccessful with the State government, but have just been informed that we have been successful in obtaining funding from the Local government to replace the existing running track and centre upgrade. We have also been advised that for this to take place our financial contribution will be $ 110,000.00, as you understand we are a junior sporting facility and an amount of money such as this is beyond our means.
We seek assistance in funding for the future of young Australians who participate with KLAC. Should you wish to discuss or visit KLAC , I would be only too happy to meet with you, and I write this hoping to secure funding for our track upgrade.
