The Rockhampton and district Softball Association has been around for approximately 20 years and with approximately just over 200 members ranging from Teeballers through to the Masters that play every Saturday, the Association has always managed to take teams away for State Titles from the Under 14 Girls and Boys to the Open Men and Womens Teams.
Last year our Under 19 Girls played at Wynnum Softball and we placed 2nd in the State, we also had the privilege of one of our girls making the State Team for Queensland to play in Melbourne 2010.
Not only did one of our U/19 girls make the State Team we also had 3 U/16 girls, 1 U/16 boy and also 1 of our U/19 Boys made the State Team. So for a "Country Town " we have nearly always had a member to make a State Team.
This year the Association is hoping to attend the Friendship Games that is being held in Sydney from July 4th to the 9th this year. The cost of the tour is going to be for each girl, approximately $1000 each and the team consists of 14 girls, so you can imagine the amount of fundraising we require to do. We have done the Sausage sizzles and carwashes but not everyone can attend these with work commitments.
I have put down that I am a committee member, but I am also the manager for the team that we are hoping to take to Sydney. When the girls get to play in Sydney at the Friendship Games they will have the chance to play against team that have come over from America, New Zealand and our own Australian Squad Teams just to name a few. The experience will be mind blowing for everyone involved in the team.
It is going to be cold in Sydney and we are hoping to acquire jackets, trackpants and shirts for the Team so if we are successful with any sponsorship the name of the sponsor can be put on the jackets, trackpants and shirts for all to see in Sydney and our home towns in Queensland. It would be something the girls can keep on wearing and advertise for whom ever may or if we get sponsorship, the possibabilities for advertisment is endless, not only do you get New South Wales but Queensland too.
